What is a concept map?
A concept map is a type of graphic organizer that
students use to represent their understanding of a
subject, make connections between ideas, and
produce visual representations of their
understandings. Concept maps start with a central
notion (or concept) and then branch out to illustrate
how that central notion can be subdivided into
distinct topics.

Why is it relevant?
Concept maps, also known as mind maps, are effective
visual organizers that can be applied in a variety of
contexts to illustrate and examine connections between
ideas. They can even be used by teachers as a format for
planning units or lessons of instruction. Concept maps
can help students illustrate the connections between
their ideas, concepts, or content in meaningful ways and
can be used as formative and summative assessments.
Creating a concept map gives students and teachers the
chance to construct and share their understanding of a
topic, theme, concept, or area of interest.
