Erosion control is one of the biggest concerns for many large construction projects. Multiple
factors can cause erosion, and every situation calls for specific solutions based on the site and
the severity of the problem. Controlling erosion is important not just for preserving the
construction site and protecting the new structure but also for minimizing the environmental
impact that the project has on the surrounding area. Erosion control measures can add
significantly to the project cost, and manufacturers are continually developing innovative
products to minimize cost as well as environmental impact.
3.0 METHOD
3.1 Geotextiles
Commonly used to control erosion and improve soils over which roads, embankments,
pipelines, and earth- retaining structures are built. Depending on the application, geotextiles
may have an open mesh weave, a warp-knitted structure, or a closed fabric or nonwoven
surface. The specific type of geotextile used is based on several criteria, including separation,
filtration, drainage, reinforcement, sealing, and protection.
The purpose of a silt fence is to retain the soil on disturbed land (Figure 1), such as a
construction site, until the activities disturbing the land are sufficiently completed to allow
revegetation and permanent soil stabilization to begin.
3.4 Shotcrete
Shotcrete is a method of applying concrete projected at high velocity primarily on to a vertical or
overhead surface. The impact created by the application consolidates the concrete.
Hydro mulching will be used for slope area based on requirement on site
Silt trap is a designated area where water that is contaminated with suspended sediment as a
result of construction activity or water runoff is contained. While the water is in the trap, the
sediment can settle to the bottom of the trap until it can be removed.
All runoff water should flow direct to silt trap before discharge to the public drain
