Chapter 1 Thesis

This document presents a library management system project created by students to digitize and improve the processes of a traditional library. The goals are to simplify book searching and borrowing, maintain an updated central database of book and student information, and generate reports quickly. It aims to address issues with manual record keeping like inaccurate records and inability to track books efficiently. The document outlines the scope and goals of the project, including developing databases to store book and student details and a user-friendly interface. It also discusses limitations of a non-computerized library system and how the students seek to address problems with a digital library management solution.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This paper and the research behind it would not have been
possible without the exceptional support of our supervisor Sir
Ramil Remo. His enthusiasm to support us knows no bound;
knowledge and exacting attention to detail have been an
inspiration and kept our work in check.
I would also acknowledge our team who make the effort in
making this research especially to our parents and fellow students
who enlighten us to make this program applicable to our fellow
students. We would also thank God for making this circumstance
happen though it may be a rocky road for us but it’s his will that
prevail.
ABSTRACT

With the advancement of technology, it is imperative to exalt

all the systems into a user-friendly manner. The Library
Management system (LMS) acts as a tool to transform traditional
libraries into digital libraries. In traditional libraries, the
students/user has to search for books which are hassle process
and there is no proper maintenance of database about
issues/fines. The overall progress of work is slow and it is
impossible to generate a fast report. The librarians have to work
allotted for arranging, sorting books in the book sells. At the
same time, they have to check and monitor the lend/borrow book
details with its fine. It is a tedious process to work simultaneously
in different sectors. LMS will assist the librarians to work easily.
The LMS supports the librarians to encounter all the issues
concurrently. The users need not stand in a queue for a long
period to return/borrow a book from the library. The LMS is
designed with the basic features such as librarian can
add/view/update/delete books and students' details in it. Once
he/she ingress into the system they can modify any data’s in the
database. The complete model is still in-developed.
CHAPTER 1
Introduction
OVERVIEW
We the students of BSIT IV of La Consolation College of Lilo-an
decided to write this book for Library Management System to enrich our
knowledge about the several principles and functions of management
and how they can be applied in our school libraries operations. In this
book we have tried to cover the whole field of library management
system as comprehensively as possible. The program we set before
ourselves thus a somewhat ambitious one for a program to be. But in
spite of the vastness of the ground covered, we have endeavored to
make the book something more than a mere paper or sketch, and have
aimed at such fullness of treatment as would ensure clarity and
comprehensive to the reader. The goal of this project is to create a Library
Management System for the school in order to make the school’s system
more efficient and user-friendly. A completely automated library service is
made possible by the Library system. It may display information about the
books accessible in different departments, book transactions, and book
holders, and can even add and delete books. Completing the chapters with
proper and effective information required lot of literature study. We are
implementing a low-work high-effectiveness project that can be used to
help our striving librarians do their work effectively. After this project
can be implanted we hope we can succeed to our more future
endeavors.

Many libraries are run by a group of professionals. These individuals

keep records on the books and the students (borrowers), manually inspect the
books, and keep records on provided books. All of this must be done
manually, and if the library is vast, accurate record keeping will become a
huge issue, as manual record keeping has never been a dependable
approach due to people's proclivity to forget things.
Other issues with the current system include:

 It is not feasible to generate reports quickly.

 It is tough to track down a book.

 The information concerning the issuance and return of books is not kept
up to date because the information is not available in the database, no
central database can be constructed.
Goals and Objectives

Main Goal

The Library Systems major goal is to keep track of information such as

address, member, issues, books, and students. It creates a set of

recommendations for a more efficient library system. Keeps track of all the

information about the address, the librarian, and the students. Because the

project is entirely constructed at the administrative level, only the administrator

has access in editing the system. The goal of the project is to create

application software that will decrease the amount of human effort involved in

managing Address, Member, and Librarian information. It keeps track of all

the information about the Books and the Student.

Specific Objectives

The following are the specific objectives of the proposed system:

 Develop a database which stores all kinds of books details.

 Develop a database which stores the students' and book borrowers’

details.

 Simplifies the process of finding and borrowing specific books.

 Develop a user-friendly interface to give reliable search facility for

users and an easy-to-understand user-friendly system.

 To determine the current library system's strengths.

 To determine the current library system's shortcomings.

 To assess the current library system's strengths and flaws.

 To improve every flaws in the library system.

Library Scope

The influence of technology on the ordinary library has substantially

extended its scope and capacity. As the computer's full capabilities are

increasingly uncovered and used to the library, this is an ongoing and evolving

connection.

Computers have transformed how individuals’ study and connect with

one another, as well as the library itself so in speaking we made possible that

we can use computers to improvise librarians work and simplify the job for

them.

Library Limitations

Without computers, as some libraries do, they are all reliant on paper work.

Data backup and retrieval techniques are inefficient and labor demanding

when compared to electronic ones. Users of a paper-based system become

almost entirely reliant on librarians for all levels of service, whether it be

inquiries about current volumes, inter-library loans, or book availability.

Furthermore, there is no meaningful user interaction throughout the entire

process. So if there’s no computer and program access then our library

system is not usable.
