STS11 Module 4 (MATUTE)
YEAR&SECTION: IT2B
Application
1. In your own words, what are the short term and long-term impacts of increasing soil
ANSWER: For me, the short-term and long-term effects of the increase in salinity in the land are due to
the effect of production on crops, the baldness of forests caused by cutting down trees and not planting
trees in the forest.
2. Groundwater supplies in coastal areas (like the City of Mati and other municipalities
happening in your area? If not yet, then do you see this potentially happening in the
3. What do you think should be done to prevent problems related to soil salinity?
ANSWER: Let's plant a lot of mangrove trees in the coastal sea and let's avoid throwing garbage in our
oceans.
Application
fertilizers are absolutely necessary for growing and sustaining agricultural crops?
ANSWER: For me I don't believe it because it destroys the crops and the sustainability of agriculture will
be lost.
2. Because of the harmful effects of chemical fertilizers, organic fertilizers are being
ANSWER: Organic fertilizers comprise a variety of plant-derived materials that range from fresh or dried
plant material to animal manures and litters to agricultural by-products. The nutrient content of organic
fertilizers varies greatly among source materials, and readily biodegradable materials make better
nutrient sources. Specific examples of fertilizers is Non-toxic Food, On-Farm Production, Low Capital
Investment, and Fertility of Soil.
3. Do you think organic fertilizers can replace chemical fertilizers completely and
1. In this process, the soil particles are loosened or washed away in the valleys, oceans, rivers,
streams, or faraway lands. This has been worsening due to human activities such as agriculture
and deforestation. Soil erosion is a continuous process that occurs either slowly or at an
alarming rate. It results in a continuous loss of topsoil, ecological degradation, soil collapse, etc.
Soil is a natural resource that may look robust and endless, but is in fact the fragile product of
thousands of years of formation. Topsoil, which lies closest to the surface of the land, contains
essential nutrients for crops. It is this layer of soil that is endangered by wind and water erosion.
Soil erosion decreases soil fertility, which can negatively affect crop yields. It also sends soil-
laden water downstream, which can create heavy layers of sediment that prevent streams and
rivers from flowing smoothly and can eventually lead to flooding. Once soil erosion occurs, it is
more likely to happen again.
Application
1. Why should we be concerned about soil erosion? What is it and what are its impacts?
ANSWER: Because landslides are major damage in an area because they can cover the habitats that are
below ground. The effect of this is that the houses around the mountain will be covered or buried by the
landslides. People will lose their homes and livelihoods if this happens.
ANSWER: They stabilize the soil, prevent erosion, enhance the land's capacity to store water, and
moderate air and soil temperatures. The importance of these effects has often been ignored in the past,
with the clearance of tree vegetation and the subsequent loss of millions of hectares of productive land.
