Chapter1 2

Computer systems use both RAM and backing storage. RAM is used to store data currently being worked on and is volatile, while backing storage such as hard disks are used to store data non-volatilely including backups, files, and operating system files. Graphical user interfaces provide advantages over command line interfaces such as being more intuitive and user-friendly. Optical discs such as Blu-ray discs are preferred over magnetic tapes for storing high definition movies due to having higher storage capacity and being more durable.
