Instructions:
3. The study location chosen by your group MUST BE DIFFERENT from one another.
(Recommended at common location for flood issues in Malaysia) with ANY ONE (1) Negeri, ONE
(1) Daerah, ANY THREE (3) nearest rainfall stations; and at least ONE (1) water level station of
related/nearest river of your chosen location. Based on the PublicInfobanjir map, you can enlarge
the map to see the contour, and location of station areas. Make sure your group have different
rainfall and water level station for the selected station and river although same location of ‘Negeri
& Daerah’ are selected by another group. Explain your reason why you choose these stations and
provide brief information of this location. Attach the map of the proposed catchment boundary of
these stations in your report. Explain on how you develop this catchment boundary. (Week 3 –
Week 4)
4. Rainfall and water level data of the stations should be continuously available for ONE (1) year. This
can be done by clicking the latest rainfall and water level data menu from the website, and the
hyetograph and hydrograph of the stations will be displayed. Click ‘show options’, and you can
choose any date for ONE (1) year data. From this annual data, choose any FIVE (5) months that
contained 5 highest rainfall events. Save all the FIVE (5) months data (date, all rainfall data (3
stations) and water level of streamflow (1 station), manually into the excel spreadsheet for 1 hour
interval. (Week 4 – Week 6).
5. Using Google Earth Pro (you need to download this apps), gather the necessary information of
these stations (the common flood area at your selected location) such as geographical
characteristics: 1) the terrain profiles and gradient slopes between stations – click here >>
shorturl.at/pqtNP; 2) Any 3 (THREE) cross sections of the river near to the chosen water level
station – click here >> shorturl.at/mFJLS. (Week 5 – Week 6)
6. Analyse all the data obtained, generate related (simple) map (if related) with its boundary catchment
and the flow movement, plot related graphs using suitable software/technology (i.e excel
spreadsheet. (Week 6 – Week – 9). To be more specific, your output analysis should consist of: -
a. Rainfall data – Using three methods of areal rainfall calculation, compare the results
obtained from your proposed catchment area of topographic map for each station. You
may use 7 consecutive days of rainfall data for your calculation.
b. Streamflow/ Water level data – Generate your own hydrographs (minimum of 3 graphs
(from the 3 highest rainfall events) from your data collection). Choose any ONE (1)
method to separate natural hydrograph into 2 components. Determine and plot the Unit
Hydrograph of your proposed catchment.
c. Google Earth information & MSMA 2nd edtion – Calculate the peak flow using; 1)
Rational method of your proposed catchment boundary/ location 2) cross section profile
of the river at the maximum water level. Compare both discharge values and explain
the findings based on your understanding.
7. Elaborate & explain all your findings in your presentation and report (Week 9 – Week 10).
8. Prepare to present your information, methods and findings using video presentation (not more than
8 minutes presentation), hence you need to document all the process using videos, pictures and
compiled it in one creative videos (Week 6 – Week 10).
9. Submit your report in Week 10 (22 Dec 2022). The report must be type-written in English and
should contain the following sections:
a. Introduction
b. Methodology
c. Data Presentation
d. Analysis & Result
e. Discussion & Conclusion
f. References
10. At the end of your report, it is COMPULSORY to attach minutes of your meetings and list down
CONTRIBUTION by each member. Use the templates given in Appendices 1 and 2 respectively.
11. Produce a video presentation for your project (Week 6 – Week 10). The video:
