PROCEDURE FOR HAND TOOLS AND POWERED TOOLS

Safety precautions
 Examine each tool for damage before use.
 Use the right tool for the right job.
 Operate according to the manufacturer’s instruction.
 Keep all tools in good conditions.
 Participate in safety training.

Hand Tools

Hand tools are non-powered. They include anything from needle to cutters.
The greatest hazards occur by hand tools result from misuse and improper
maintenance.

 Around flammable substances sparks produced by iron tools and steel


hand tools can be a dangerous ignition source.
 Floors shall be kept clean and dry as possible to prevent accidental slips
with or around dangerous hand tools.
 When working with cutters, knifes, scissors employee shall use
appropriate protective equipment’s such as hand gloves and wrist guards.
 Do not use a tool if you are unsure how to use it in a safe manner.

Power Tools

Power tools can be hazardous when improperly used. There are several types
of portable power tools which is based on the power source they may use.

 Do not operate a power tool under the influence of medications or


alcohol.
 Use the tool at the rate for which it is designed to prevent excessive wear
and maintain control.
 Keep cords away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
 Always check for hidden wires that may contact for bladed tools.
 Avoid accidental starting.
 Maintain good footing and balance.
 Avoid loose fitting clothes or jewellery such a bracelets, watches or rings
which can become caught in moving parts, Long haor must be restrained.

Safety Guidelines
 Never throw any tools towards another person.
 Do not carry sharp or pointed tools with the edge or point upward and
toward the body.
 Never carry any tool in a manner that obstructs vision.
 Never give sharp or pointed tools to another person with the sharp end
towards the receiver.
 Place all tools in a tool box if not in use.
 Transport the tool in it carrying case if provided.

Training
Training must be given to the employees in the following instructions:

 Selecting the right tool for the job.


 Safe operations.
 Common cause of injury.
 Safe precautions.
 Personal productive equipment.
