PROBLEM AND REASON OF SELECTING IT
NOWADAYS, we see that many of us are turning to drug addicts and due to which
our society is facing severe problems. How?
BENEFIT OF RESEARCH
Normally, people who are not educated or are less concerned about their
lives lack the destructive effects of drugs on their lives. we would aware
people through our research that how people loss their live in doing
these activities and at the end of the day it all goes in vain and its their
family who suffers afterwards.
This research would help the drug addict people to realize their
responsibilities for their family and society, and the society would run in
a healthy environment.

1. BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION
1.1. What is Drug?
A simple, all-encompassing definition of a drug would be "a substance containing
chemicals which result in a specific physical or psychological reaction or
reactions." This, at least, is as much true of penicillin, a drug which has saved
millions of lives, as it is of cocaine--a drug which, especially in the latter part of
the twentieth century, has claimed a death toll in the hundreds of thousands if not
the millions.
Lack of knowledge:
6
Most people who are addicted have less knowledge about drugs or its
consequences. Mean while awareness of education is less, as our religion Islam
never admires to use drugs.
Easy Availability:
If government makes strict rules on such type of things it would and can be
vanished from our society. Easy availability makes everybody curious to buy such
drugs.
Peer Pressure:
It is one of the major causes of addiction. Friends or company makes one good
or bad.if friends are drug addict they will pressurize their non addict friends to
take drugs.
7
8
3. TYPES OF DRUGS
Hash (THC), heroin, cocaine, alcohol, opium, sedative pills,
tranquilizers, tobacco, marijuana and stimulants are the drugs commonly
used in Pakistan.
9
Alcohol: Although legal, alcohol is a toxic substance, particularly
to a developing fetus when a mother consumes this drug during
pregnancy.
10
4. TEEN DRUG ADDICTION
The life decisions we make currently in our individual lives ultimately will affect,
be it better or for worse, the futures of our lives. For instance one who neglects to
learn how to read will be handicapped by their inability to read for the rest of their
life until they learn to read. Lack of curbing problems while they are still in their
growth stage can be tremendously more difficult to curb when the problems have
reached their maturity. For these reasons teens are at a unique time in their lives to
be able to change, if they are in the right situation with enough leverage for a
significant amount of time As their drug/alcohol use will ultimately still be in the
growth stage.
Drug abuse is getting more and more common widespread drug abuse may be
indicated by the fact that almost five percent of the adult population is using drugs
in Pakistan. As a proportion of drug abusers, heroin users have increased from 7.5
percent in 1983 to a shocking 51 percent a decade later in 1993.
I think some of the major reasons are that in Pakistan drugs like alcohol and heroin
are strictly prohibited but it’s available on a large scale and no one is checking over
them, it’s so obvious when such things are available easily so why won’t people
buy them? As it’s the COOL factor of the society know a days. So who is to blame
the youth, their families or the system? What I think is everyone has to contribute
their part.
The families who have parents addicted to alcohol or smoking tobacco should at
least avoid doing them in front of their children. Universities, Colleges and
Schools should conduct workshops telling kids that how much drugs and alcohol
can harm them, but most importantly when drugs will be banned strictly and will
not be easily available so the ratio of drugs abuse can come down to a large extent.
One of the best reasons to get a help for teens while they are still teenagers, beyond
being a very formidable time in a Childs life, is the consequences of inaction upon
future generations. Statistics have shown that instances of teen drug addiction run
in long chains from parents to children. This is why now is the time to either break
the chain of teen drug addiction or stop it from forming. No amount of hard work,
money, sacrifice is worth more than breaking a chain of substance abuse or
preventing one from forming.

5. DATA ANALYSIS

EXPLANATION OF GRAPH
According to the above graph people of age group between 18-20 are
highly engaged in drugs. But we see that as the age passes this ratio
decreases. we asked our sample group for the reason they said that the
reason might be the feeling of responsibility in parents that if they do not
stop how would they be able to stop their children.(90%).20% said this
might be due to the pressure or you can say love of their loved relations
that persuade them to leave this habit.(20%)
We conducted a survey of sample 100 to see how many people are
engaged in activities such as smoking and the most emerging drug
“sheesha”
About 70% of the people are drug addicts. we particularly centered our
survey on people who take sheesha or smoke and only 30% people are
not engaged in this activity.
We further found that 90% people are in the favor of the fact that a drug
addict can lead a successful life and only 10% are not in favor of it.
further more people get addicted to drugs highly through pressure by
peer group 60% of the people,20% smoke and take sheesha as a fashion
and only 10% are not in this category.
We than asked people ( our sample group) to suggest any replica of it
90% of people said that there is no replica of it but 20% of people gave
amazing answers .they said they might be persuaded by their loved ones
to leave this habit .and some people suggested that the government
should ban these things in our country and bring any substitute for it.

6. IMPACTS OF DRUGS USE
The impact of illicit drug use is widespread. It causes permanent physical and
emotional damage to user’s family and peers. Drug negatively impacts user’s
health and leads to disease. Many users died in young age because of overdose of
drug.
CONCLUSION:
Addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug
seeking and use, despite harmful consequences to the addicted individual and to
those around him or her. Although the initial decision to take drugs is voluntary for
most people, the brain changes that occur over time challenge a person’s self
control and ability to resist intense impulses urging them to take drugs.
Fortunately, treatments are available to help people counter addiction’s powerful
disruptive effects. Research shows that combining addiction treatment medications
with behavioral therapy is the best way to ensure success for most patients.
Treatment approaches that are tailored to each patient’s drug abuse patterns and
any co-occurring medical, psychiatric, and social problems can lead to sustained
recovery and a life without drug abuse.
Similar to other chronic, relapsing diseases, such as diabetes, asthma, or heart
disease, drug addiction can be managed successfully. And as with other chronic
diseases, it is not uncommon for a person to relapse and begin abusing drugs again.
Relapse, however, does not signal treatment failure—rather, it indicates that
treatment should be reinstated, adjusted, or that an alternative treatment is needed
to help the individual regain control and recover.
RECOMMENDATION:
Development of advocacy strategies:
Some suggested strategies for future programs are the development of advocacy
strategies for programmers addressing treatment of drug dependencies as one of
16
the priorities within the health care delivery system and the development of
mechanisms for coordination and cooperation within private and public sector
organizations for delivery of drug treatment and rehabilitation services. In addition,
it is suggested that relevant organizations develop protocols and demonstration
projects for selected modalities, especially those for community-based service
delivery of drug treatment and rehabilitation programs. Other future programmers
could include the institution of multidisciplinary training about drug dependence
and addictive behaviors with special emphasis on treatment of problems arising as
a result of harmful use of drugs, and the development of programmers to meet the
needs of drug dependent prison inmates.
