Research proposal:
How
COVID 19 affected the
education industry
14.08.2021
Abstract
The COVID-19 is now having a significant influence on corporate organisations and
people's lives, as well as impacting the international supply of goods and services
owing to global lockdown. The governments and medical departments lack a
precise plan and medical support to combat the epidemic. The educational system
and institutions are having a difficult time keeping educational activities continuing
since children and students' immune systems are weak, which may have a negative
impact on their health. The study will look into the effects of COVID-19 on
educational systems and institutions. The information for this purpose will be
gathered by administering a questionnaire to 50 individuals (teachers and students).
The participants will be chosen by using a non-probability sampling approach.

Why is it relevant and for whom?

As recent events have shown, the pandemic has had long lasting effects,
detrimental or otherwise, upon life in all aspects therefore a more adequate point of
deliberation here is not as to the relevancy of the pandemic itself as the
aforementioned alongside this study states it as such, it is ascertaining how and to
what capacity the pandemic has had such influence. The repercussions become
2

very apparent in the context of the educational sector as the notion of remote
learning has never even been thought of as such a strong necessity before. Within
such short notice all educational institutions including those of higher learning
across multiple disciples have had to reform their curriculums completely to make
them applicable to remote learning. It is a feat of epic proportions which has had a
toll both on the teacher and the student alike. The former has had to impart
knowledge restricting it to the parameters of the screen despite the subject matter
and whether it has to be taught practically whilst the student has had to absorb this
knowledge in a starkly different online setting as opposed to a physical classroom
for the sake of their degrees and later, their livelihoods.Looking beyond concrete
reality, it is notable that this radical shift in academics has had detrimental effects
upon the mental health of people. This being said, with the integrity of the mind
being impacted, there could be a snowball effect in the foreseeable future. Anything
as minor as an unhealthy and dismissive attitude towards academia in general
could go on to Foster the very same in the next generation and that could severely
impact the influx of enthusiastic learners to institutes of Higher education.
Consequently, with the inclination towards academia being at an all time low due to
remote learning may translate to lessening students which translates to relatively
lower cash inflows and thus may demotivate teachers towards their professions as
well.

Research method
Deductive and indicative research techniques will be utilised to obtain a grasp of the
study's factors and to keep the analysis flowing. The researcher will be using the
indicative technique to perform present research, which also supports in enhancing
the dependability and correctness.Using the questionnaire method, the researcher
will be collecting data for the assessment of the influence of COVID-19 on the
educational system and institution by adopting this strategy (Fletcher, 2017).The
research study's strategic strategy is established using the suitable design. The
researcher might use the exploratory, descriptive, and casual designs to achieve the
desired result. The current study will be based upon questionnaire data, and the
descriptive approach will probably prove beneficial in analysing the influence of
3

Covid-19 on the educational system. This type of design has aided in the analysis
and social, economic, and technological elements of the COVID-19 on the
institution, as well as in getting an in-depth understanding of difficulties and possible
hurdles in the provision of online learning and modifying the present classroom
method to study.According to research methodological functions, two types of
studies will be used to conduct professional research: qualitative and quantitative.
The researcher will use a descriptive design and a questionnaire approach to collect
data for the current study. As a result, the study will end up quantitative in nature,
which will aid in meeting the study's objectives.Using this kind, the researcher will
focus on direct and indirect elements that may impact the educational system and
approaches of institutions as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic. It will also aid in the
analysis of many variables in order to determine the influence on online learning as
a result of changes in people's economic, demographic, and employment levels.

Extraction
Data collection
The primary technique will be used to collect data for the current study since the
researcher used a descriptive design, a quantitative type, and an indicative
approach. As previously stated, the questionnaire technique through e-mail was
used to collect the data. Now that the researcher has disseminated the questionnaire
through email, data collecting will be less time intensive. Furthermore, the
employment of the questionnaire approach will enhance the research's reliability
and validity.

Readability and Validity of the study

To ensure the research's reliability and validity, the researcher will inquire on the
topic matter and discard any incorrect replies. The data will be analysed using
descriptive and content analysis.Furthermore, the researcher will place emphasis on
ethical study criteria such as responder privacy, data tampering, and ensuring that
no data has been taken as stolen. This method has enhanced the research's efficacy
and accuracy in understanding the effects of COVID-19 on the education systems
and institutional methods.
4

Analysis technique
It is an essential component of the research, and the data will be analysed using the
theme analysis technique by the researcher. The researcher will use this approach
to create a frequency distribution and analyse the responses of respondents by
creating tables and graphs. This method will benefit both the investigator and the
study's readers.

Expected results
Social isolation and social distance are important tools for protecting individuals, but
they are also having an influence on the educational system, as physical presence
is necessary for educating students through activities in the classroom.Classes and
student gatherings are not permitted in the schools. This type of circumstance
makes it difficult for the schooling institution to keep programs and activities of
learning and exchanging information flowing. The teacher's ability to teach children
from 4 to 10 years old is limited by their parents' lack of interest in online learning.
Furthermore, some parents may not have the financial means to set up a digital
learning system for their children to attend classes online. The lack of gadgets and
internet access is also causing problems when it comes to providing ideas and
insights about the course. Although online learning is a viable alternative, it will be
tough for smaller educational institutions to retain students because passive
learning may be obtained from reputable institutions.COVID-19 has now become a
major concern for society in terms of maintaining daily routines in both work and
personal life.Expected results may vary. Majority of the respondents will probably
agree that COVID-19 had a significant influence on people's lifestyles and economic
activities. COVID-19 has a major influence on mankind, impacting economic, social,
and environmental behaviours. However, minority of the respondents will probably
disagree that COVID-19 is not a major issue since social distance and the
implementation of protective measures will assist to mitigate the impact. And some
respondents might be adamantly opposed. The COVID-19 has also had an
influence on the educational system, which will have long-term consequences.
Approximately 90% of respondents will agree to make reforms to the school system.
However, 10% of respondents will eventually go for not wanting to modify the
5

current educational system. The online learning system is a wonderful alternative for
keeping up with studies and preparing upcoming learning strategies. According to a
study conducted in 2020 by Sintema, examination of data obtained from
respondents, 90 percent of respondents support the development and promotion of
an online education system. However, 10% of respondents disagreed and were
opposed to altering the current educational system. Academic institutions must
encourage learning through online means in order to sustain the flow of education
and generate money. In this era, 100% of respondents will most probably agree on
the importance of boosting online education through the use of the internet and
technological gadgets.

Drawbacks and risks

Participants may not feel compelled to offer accurate, truthful responses.
Respondents may not be comfortable submitting responses that portray them
negatively. The respondents of the study may be unaware of their reasoning for any
given response due to a lack of recall on the issue or simply disinterest. There may
be data inaccuracies as a result of inquiry non-responses. The amount of people
who choose to reply to a questionnaire may vary from those who choose not to,
resulting in bias.

Summary
The governments are working on isolating the individual, quarantining him or her by
tracing the contact person, and prohibiting big gatherings. These techniques are
helpful to some level, but they are not a long-term answer for controlling the world's
economic and social situations. Furthermore, the research will examine the growth
in collaborative work, which will benefit the institution in promoting learning through
the new system by enlisting the aid of communities to a significant extent.
Modernization of the educational system is critical, and now is the ideal time to
deploy new technologies. Apart from that, the research will assist us in identifying
problems for institutes, such as the lack of a central and standard online system for
all types of institutions. COVID-19 has had a detrimental influence on all sectors and
industries, resulting in a significant shortage of new job possibilities. Changes in the
educational system are required, and the use of online resources and technology
6

will be useful. Online courses and the exchange of instructor notes and data via
online platforms will be beneficial in keeping the educational system flowing. The
same sorts of results will be discovered in our study, which places a high value on
the importance of educational institutions. Moreover, It will be extremely difficult for
emerging countries to build such infrastructure in the future years, given their
economies are under strain. Institutions' methods to executing the online education
plan will be influenced by a shortage of funds and competence in rural regions.
