Seven Sundays

Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis is defined as a set of psychological theories and therapeutic methods which

have their origin in the work and theories of Sigmund Freud.

Seven Sundays

Seven Sundays is a movie that revolves around the story of Family Bonifacio. A family where
the patriarch, Manuel(Ronaldo Valdez), was already a widowed, diagnosed with terminal illness
and living with his nephew, Jun(Ketchup Eusebio), three sons, Allan(Aga Muhlach),
Bryan(Dingdong Dantes), Dex(Enrique Gil), and one daughter Cha,(Cristine Reyes), that are
living their own lives and having their own family. These people reunite together when their
father receives sudden news about his illness. A dying wish their father wanted them to fulfill
before leaving the world. It depicts their lives from the past and who they become now.

The characters that I would like to psychoanalyze are Manuel and Dexter.

Manuel is the patriarch of the family Bonifacio. On his 69th birthday, his children did not happen
to show up in their house to celebrate with him. They only called and said sorry for not being
there and telling him what they wanted to express. The only one with him to celebrate was his
nephew Jun and still waiting for the visitors to come. While waiting, his friend and doctor, Dr.
Nelson came to his house and wished him a happy birthday and brought an unexpected news
that he was diagnosed with terminal illness. Later that night, he contacted one by one his
children. The children looked shocked by the news and thought that their father was just joking.
Coming home to their house after many years and seeing each other again, it gives relief to the
father. That scene is his only dream before his time is over in this world, to reunite with his
children and make happy memories in the remaining days with them. He wanted to spend those
remaining months with them being happy and complete.
On the next few days, a relief news happened, his doctor told him that he was misdiagnosed
and the only problem was little and it can be treated. Seeing his children together, he continued
to lie about dying. He thought that this is the only way they can be together.
Many things happened during those days: He was able to help his children to understand and
communicate with each other, tackle the problems from their past, the coming out of problems
with their own lives now, and the feeling of lack of attention from one another.

Dexter is the youngest in the family. He left the house and his studies and chased the only girl
he thought of as family. He felt like he was an outcast in their family after their mother died. His
father who was busy with his work in their community, his eldest brother and sister who now
have their own family and his other one brother who he thinks married to his work. He felt that
no one was there to his side that led him to rely on the girl, Aira, and chase her when she left.
After facing a problem in his work and hearing of his father having an illness he came home to
spend time with them. During his stay, he saw, heard, and felt love from his family. His unfulfilled
wish when he was young to eat an ice cream happened, with his father with him. The problems
and his dissatisfaction with his family opened and at last were fixed only by them. He is able to
start his new life with his family.

This movie teaches a lot of lessons and gives realistic events in this world. It shows the
importance of families, the understanding, respect, unity, forgiveness and love to each other. A
house without a family is not a comfortable home to spend with. No matter what the problem is,
it should be addressed and fixed as soon as possible. We will feel sadness when someone is
leaving but remembering the time and happiness that you spent together is a satisfaction that
you can bring anywhere you go. Family gives us strength and support. It is our companion in
our daily lives, our defense in a battle, and a happiness to continue in life.
