The study habits of students play a vital role in reflecting the standard of education
and the students’ academic performance. The students cannot be expected to learn
everything needed about the subject from their teachers in the classroom alone, it is the
combination of both the classroom learning and out of classroom learning that make up
students’ study habits. The need for effective counselling services among students cannot
to be counseled on the need to develop good study habits that will enhance a good
academic performance. Okon (2005) observed that students with structured and
organized study habit performed well during examinations. Okon (2005) went on to
recommend that parents, government and teacher should provide reading materials and a
suggested that guidance services are needed on student study attitude and study habit for
a better academic performance. Sorenson (2006), while listing the good basic study habits
stated that one must study with the primary aim of understanding. This requires one not

Justification
The reason why this study is being conducted is to know that study habits have been
the most important predictor of academic performance and play a special role in the
academic achievement of students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the status
of study habits and its relationship with academic achievement in Carlos Hilado

Aims
The aim of this study is to reveal university students’ self-directed learning skills
and determine whether these skills vary based on university type, gender, field of study,
year of study, academic success, type of university entrance score, income level, and the
will to pursue a graduate degree. Also, the study also explored the relationship between
university students’ self-directed learning skills and their lifelong learning tendencies.
The studies on the correlation of academic achievement have paved way for control and
manipulation of related variables for quality results in schools. In spite of the facts that
schools impart uniform classroom instructions to all students, wide range of difference is

This study utilized a correlation research design which determines the relationships
among two variables such as study habits and academic performance of BSBA students
at Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Fortune Towne. The study will be conducted in
Carlos Hilado Memorial State College- Fortune Towne of Bacolod City. Carlos Hilado

Findings
The comparative analysis of the extent of study habits of BSBA students when
grouped and compared according to age shows that, all of the interpretation in each areas
towards the categories of age are not significant. The comparative analysis of the extent
of study habits of BSBA students when grouped and compared according to family
monthly income, the interpretation on memorization and parental involvement area when
compared to the categories of family monthly income are significant while the time
management and the studying skills area has gotten a not significant as an interpretation.
