Observation

The study habits of students play a vital role in reflecting the standard of education

and the students’ academic performance. The students cannot be expected to learn

everything needed about the subject from their teachers in the classroom alone, it is the

combination of both the classroom learning and out of classroom learning that make up

students’ study habits. The need for effective counselling services among students cannot

be overemphasized in order to achieve good academic performances. The students need

to be counseled on the need to develop good study habits that will enhance a good

academic performance. Okon (2005) observed that students with structured and

organized study habit performed well during examinations. Okon (2005) went on to

recommend that parents, government and teacher should provide reading materials and a

conducive environment for effective learning. Onwuegbuzie (2001) in his study

suggested that guidance services are needed on student study attitude and study habit for

a better academic performance. Sorenson (2006), while listing the good basic study habits

stated that one must study with the primary aim of understanding. This requires one not

to be in a hurry of getting through, rather sustained concentration is necessary. The

relationship of study habits and the academic performance a habit is defined as a planned

schedule done regularly, while to study is to gain knowledge. Therefore, study habits are

done regularly in order to expand learning. It is the way how students accomplish their

homework and how they prepare for an exam. This research discusses how important

study habits are in achieving students academic good performance. This also presents

how many hours the students are studying, how they prepare for an exam, and what is the
comfortable place and time for them to study in order to show it these factors are

contributors in attaining better academic performance. Some of them prefer to be alone.

The comfortable place for them to study has also something to do in order for them to

attain good academic performance. Some study inside their bedroom and they are at ease

to study during evening.

performance of students.

Hα: There is a significant difference between the study habits and the academic

performance of students.
Aims

The aim of this study is to reveal university students’ self-directed learning skills

and determine whether these skills vary based on university type, gender, field of study,

year of study, academic success, type of university entrance score, income level, and the

will to pursue a graduate degree. Also, the study also explored the relationship between

university students’ self-directed learning skills and their lifelong learning tendencies.

The studies on the correlation of academic achievement have paved way for control and

manipulation of related variables for quality results in schools. In spite of the facts that

schools impart uniform classroom instructions to all students, wide range of difference is

observed in their academic achievement. The study sought to determine the relationship

between study habits and academic achievement of students. A survey design was

employed in this descriptive correlation study.

skills, time management and parental involvement. Each of the components was provided

with 5 questions. For their responses to each of the items in the questionnaire, the

participants/respondents will be given five options to choose from. Each option is

Often 4

Sometimes 3

Never 1

The academic performance contains the overall average of the BSBA students on

the first semester on the school year 2021-2022.

For the overall average in the first semester of the students we have provided each

responses its assigned numerical value to facilitate subsequent statistical analysis.

Responses Scales

Outstanding 90-100

Very Satisfactory 85-89

Satisfactory 80-84

The comparative analysis of the extent of study habits of BSBA students when

grouped and compared according to age shows that, all of the interpretation in each areas

towards the categories of age are not significant. The comparative analysis of the extent

of study habits of BSBA students when grouped and compared according to family

null hypothesis which states that there is no significant difference between study habits

and academic performance of BSBA students. In layman’s term there is a significant

relationship between the two variables.
