NSCM 2021 NARRATIVE REPORT

NSCM 2021 LAUNCHING

The month of September is a significant period for almost all schools. It entails a great deal of
planning, preparation and flawless execution to deliver a distinct experience in the realm of science.

Presidential Proclamation No.264 declares September of every year as the National Science Club
Month. Pursuant thereof, the different schools of SDO Dagupan conducted several activities in
consonance with this year’s National Science Club Month theme: “RIPTIDE – Science Clubbing Steadfast
Against Raging Currents”. However due to the global crisis brought by COVID-19 pandemic, it prevented
everyone to celebrate NSCM entirely different from what we were accustomed to. But this did not stop
our Science Clubbers to push through and brought the celebration in the virtual space. All schools
virtually launched their celebration with amazing opening teasers, highly animated video clips and
colorful posters to fully take advantage of what modern technology has to offer. The result was
astounding as different schools went live left and right giving everyone a front row ticket to see their
plans and activities for this years’ NSCM
celebration.
CLEAN-UP DRIVE

To take part and be a solution on the imposing issues about the condition of our environment
particularly the preservation of our life sustaining bodies of water, students and teachers from different
schools of Dagupan City in their own way, gave their best efforts to come up with various activities that
promotes environmental cleanliness. Schools like; JJDVST-VSS, BBNHS, Pugaro IS, T.Ayson ES,
Mamalingling ES and SNHS even conducted tree planting, backyard vegetable gardening, and mangrove
planting respectively to enhance food resources and availability through basic garden cultivation.
PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

In a generation of clicks and slides, students nowadays certainly have keen eyes for subject
composition and precious moments. The mastery of light painting – photography is an effective way of
communicating messages without even spilling a word. To show love for this art and appreciation of our
surrounding, different schools like DCNHS, CCNHS, WCES I, SABANGAN ES, PUGARO IS, and SNHS
brought their phone and other cameras to competition capturing picturesque perfect subjects and
moments that will certainly convey
appreciation on the beauty of our
environment and bodies of water.
TIK-TOK CHALLENGE

Tik-tok was the name of the craze, but using it to promote environmental awareness is a whole new
level. Almost all schools of SDO Dagupan didn’t want to miss the trend. They took advantage of this
mobile application to invite not only students but even teachers to move and bring the groove through
singing and dancing while promoting water protection and environmental conservation. Certainly our
environmental stewards were not ashamed of saying “We Love Nature” through awesome dance moves
and songs.
SCIENCE QUIZ-SHOW

It can’t be a month long Science celebration without wearing your thinking caps. All schools
during the NSCM celebration certainly had to highlight this as one of their main activity, the old but gold
- Quiz show! Students from their respective schools and grade level, battled it out with wits as they
answer different science questions putting in to the test their ability to think critically and maintain
composure in time constraint situation. The quiz show was in a different level as it was held online using
different platforms like google meet, google form, quiziz, and other presentation apps making the quiz
show highly sophisticated and exciting.
POSTER – SLOGAN MAKING CONTEST

On the spot making poster – slogan making contest is a friendly competition among students by
making visual (poster) that express their opinions, analysis, and reaction about a certain theme or topic.
All schools of SDO Dagupan City did not fail to include this as one of their main activity tapping the
prowess of our students when it comes to visual creation, proper combination of hues and the use of
the same to convey messages and express understanding towards the preservation of our bodies of
water. Some schools held it virtually and required students to come up with virtual posters using
available visual creating applications like Photoshop, paint and the like.
ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Students from different schools in Dagupan City expressed themselves linguistically by creating well
thought essays addressing environmental concerns about our bodies of water. Arguing, justifying and
presenting solutions to what seemingly an important matter that appears to be receiving the short end
of the stick when it comes to priority especially that the global concern is geared towards the immediate
remedy in solving COVID-19 pandemic.
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION DRIVE

Relevant information nowadays is imperative. To clearly convey the meaning behind the
celebration of this years’ NSCM, different schools of SDO Dagupan came up with different information
dissemination strategies. From a simple brochure, to basic video tips of washing your hands and
brushing your teeth with the proper use of water as well as live symposiums and social media postings
were conducted to clearly express the relevance of the theme and connect the same in combating

COVID-19 pandemic.
MODEL-MAKING CONTEST

Allowing a person to craft something out of raw materials, displays creativity. Students and pupils
from SALISAY ES, SABANGAN ES, and T. Ayson Rosario ES made use of recyclable material to create
beautiful facemasks and well-built face shields that are basic commodities to protect ourselves from
COVID-19. Calmay ES even went for a more complex activity to express creativity by asking students to
come up with their own dioramas that shows the beauty of our bodies of water. They certainly bridged
the gap between imagination and reality.
NSCM WEBINAR SERIES

“Amid our current situation, challenges come in gigantic waves with raging strength, and
so we must learn to be steadfast and to sail through it. With NSCM 2021, PSYSC aims to not
just increase the appreciation for our waters but also raise awareness regarding the different
issues surrounding it. Through a variety of events and activities, we will delve into the study of
the waters that we as an archipelagic nation have known all our lives,”
All schools of SDO Dagupan, joined the National Celebration of Science Month this
September by watching the Webinar Series which were aired in Facebook and Youtube every
Saturday. Teachers and students were highly engaged with various activities and learning
sessions that promote or raise awareness regarding the different issues concerning our bodies
of water. The event was a huge success as students and teachers though kilometers apart were
as if brought into one place united and driven with one goals as they accomplish one activity
after the other that lead to the realization of the importance of our water resources.
CULMINATING PROGRAM

The support that we get from the different offices of SDO Dagupan City had made this endeavor
monumental and worth keeping. The Science Month Celebration in its entirety was a great success. The
efforts of the different schools coupled with their marvelous outputs are but a manifestation of the
resilience that each and every one of us, as prime movers of education and stewards of nature possess
both in our mind and hearts. This achievement will always be a constant reminder that no amount of
worry nor fear can overcome the raging tides of Science Clubbers whose love of wisdom and nature is
second to none.
