Topic: Food, Where does it come from?

Introduction:
Food is one of the basic needs of human life. It provides people the energy and
nutrients they need to grow and develop, gain strength, and work productively. Nutritious food
plays a vital role in the promotion of health and disease prevention. We are made of what we
eat. Children should eat nutritious meals as well as get plenty of exercises and adequate sleep
every day. These positive health habits will help them grow strong and stay healthy, interact
well with others, and lessen the tendencies that they will become obese.

Project:
1. Animals have a significant role in our diet. They provide us with milk, meat products, eggs
and honey. Cows, goats and buffaloes (cattle) are some common animals which give us
milk. Bees collect nectar from flowers, convert it into honey and store it in their hive.

List six animals and classify them as herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. In which
category will human beings come in? (Stick relevant pictures) (2 marks)

2. Examine the edible parts of the plant and state an example for each. For instance, Root -

3. India’s diversity is not only evident in its multi-religious, multi-lingual people but also the
vast variety of cuisines that Indians relish. No matter where you stay there is always that one
particular food item that will remind you of your hometown- one delicacy that defines ‘home’
for you. Write about one traditional food item/dish from any state in India.

TOPIC: 2 - GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT

Introduction:

Every household produces a lot of garbage or wastes daily. This garbage includes
left-over food, fruit and vegetable peels, waste paper, unwanted plastic objects, glass
articles, metal objects, old wooden objects, rags, sewage etc. Some of the garbage is
biodegradable whereas a major part of it is non-biodegradable. If the household garbage and
other wastes like industrial wastes are not disposed of properly, it can pollute the
environment like soil, water and air and adversely harm us and all the living beings.

Project:

1. Plastic a boon or a curse. Collect information about plastics and explain whether plastic is
boon or a curse. Make a collage to support the answer (2 marks)

2. Recycling of paper. Try to make a sheet of recycled paper by yourself and attach it with
