Course Name Teaching English in Elemtary Grades (Langugae Arts)

Course Credit 3 units


Course Description This course requires the pre-service English teachers to demonstrate their understanding of the four types of grammar. This
course provides an avenue for analysis on the role of grammar in achieveing communicative competence. It also allows them
to apply teaching strategies that are responsive to their students' linguistic backgrounds.

Contact Hours/Week 3 hours/week


Course Outcomes By the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. design a compendium of formative and summative assessment tasks which are in line with the selected competencies;
2. craft a learning plan that promotes literacy among their students by incorporating their principled understanding of
assessment of grammar; and
3. conduct a teaching demonstration using innovative teaching approaches and tasks that are responsive to the students’
linguistic needs.
