GUIDELINE FOR RESEARCH PROPOSAL PREPARATION
FOURTH YEAR 2022/2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

GUIDELINE FOR QUANTITATIVE STUDIES

Preliminary Pages
i. Cover page (Start with the name of the university and name of the school, followed by the
university logo, title of the study, Name of the student, Registration number, A Research
Proposal, followed by the name of institution and date of submission)
 Do not write in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS but your titles must be Title Case (i.e. all
major words are capitalized while minor words are written in lower case) and written in
the center)
 This should not have a page number but it is counted as number (i).

ii. Title page (Start with the title of the study, followed by Name of the student, followed by a
statement ‘A Research Proposal Submitted in (partial) Fulfillment of the Requirements for
the Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing of, followed by the name of institution and date
of submission)
 This page should be numbered (ii)

iii. Declaration and Copyright (signed by a student)


iv. Certification (signed by a supervisor)
v. Abstract
vi. Table of Contents
vii. List of Tables (if any)
viii. List of Figures/Illustrations (if any)
ix. List of Abbreviations or Acronyms (if any)

1. Page numbers in the preliminary pages must be in roman numbers.
2. Page number starting from chapter one must be Arabic numbers
3. Writing style is Times New Roman, line space 1.5 written on both sides, each chapter
must start in a new page
4. Make sure no unnecessary spaces
5. All reports must be signed by a supervisor before they are collected to course
coordinator.

Abstract

This is like a summary of your proposal. Usually, it is written last after completing
all the steps of research process. It is usually 500 words long to a maximum of one
page long.

The contents include the following components that are written in summary form.

Methodology: (design, population, sample size, sampling technique, data


collection too, and analysis)

Table of Contents
• Should be automatic generated
• Preferably to have maximum of 3 levels
• Should be consistent (i.e. same font type and size in the same level of heading,
whether bold or not bold in the same level of heading but do not mix bolded and non-
bolded)

List of Tables
• Should be automatic generated
• Should include all tables found in the text and their page number
• Tables should be numbered using Arabic number

List of Figures
• Should be automatic generated
• Should include all figures found in the text and their page number
• Figures should be numbered using Arabic number
Abbreviations

• All abbreviations used in the text should be written in their long form
• Abbreviations should be arranged in alphabetical order
Definition of Terms

 All terminology used in the text should be defined according to the standard
definitions and should be cited
 Should be arranged in alphabetical order
