CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYIS AND INTERPRETATION OF THE DATA GATHERED

This chapter present the data gathered by the research entitled, TRAFFIC CONGESTION
IN ZAMBOANGA CITY; IMPLEMENTATION OF CITY ORDINANCE NO. 248. The
study aims to gather and interpret the data gathered by the researcher and determine what causes
traffic congestion, does traffic congestion affects them, and what the local government should do
to lessen the traffic congestion.
The researcher studied in Zamboanga City. Data gathered were properly documented,

collated, and interpreted accordingly.

A. Presentation of respondents

The table above, shows the total respondents in number and percentile of which out of a

total of 20 respondents, 8 students (40%), 7 drivers (35%), and 5 others -commuters- (25%) who

have participated on the research thesis conducted by the researcher.

B. Results on the question if traffic congestion affects them on their daily lives.

The table shows the results of the respondents to the question ‘Does traffic congestion

affects your daily living?’. As shown in the table, 75% of the total respondents answered “Yes”

to specify, 8 students (40%) and 7 drivers (35%). Whilst 25% answered “No” meaning, Traffic

Congestion does not affect their daily lives, they are the 5 commuters.

C. Results on what is/are the common problems that caused Traffic Congestion.

The roads are too narrow 65%

Fast increasing of population which leads to too much consumption of 60%

The laws or ordinances by the city government are not strongly enforced. 75%

where 65% of the total respondents answered roads are too narrow (4 students (20%), 6 drivers

(30%), and 3 others -commuters- (15%).), 60% answered fast increasing of population which

leads to too much consumption of vehicles (5 students (25%), 3 drivers (15%), and 3 others -
commuters- (15%).), and 75% answered the laws or ordinances by the city government are not

strongly enforced (7 students (35%), 5 drivers (25%), and 3 others -commuters- (15%).)

D. Results on the question what they think the local government should do to lessen the

Traffic Congestion.

Road widening 50%

There must be a strong implementation of laws or ordinance with 30%

regards to traffic.

Optimize traffic-light management 35%

Establishments must have their parking space. 40%

The government should encourage people to use bicycle or 45%

walking.

The Government must strictly implement the scheduling of plate 65%

numbers who can only go out based on they were scheduled.

The table shows the result of “What do you think should the local government of

Zamboanga City do to lessen the traffic congestion in this specific place or area?” where 50% of

the total respondents answered or suggested road widening (1 student (5%), 5 Drivers (25%), and

4 others -commuters- (20%).), 30% suggested to have a strong implementation of laws or

ordinance with regards to Traffic Congestion (1 student (5%), 3 drivers (15%), and 2 others -
commuters- (10%).), 35% suggested to optimize traffic-light management (1 student (5%), 4

drivers (20%), and 3 others -commuters- (15%).), 40% suggested that establishments must have

their own parking space (2 students (10%), 3 drivers (15%), and 3 others -commuters- (15%).),

45% suggested that the government should encourage people to use bicycle or walking (3

students (15%), 4 drivers (20%), and 2 others -commuters- (10%).), and 65% suggested that the

governments should implement the scheduling of plate numbers who can only go out based on

the plate numbers they were scheduled (6 students (30%), 4 drivers (20%), and 3 others -

commuters- (15%).).
