COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the students to appreciate the elements and contexts of 21st century literature of the Philippines and the World, demonstrate understanding and appreciation
through critical interpretation of literary text, appreciate the contributions of Filipino writers to the development of National Literature, differentiate prose and poetry, and provide examples
of different literary genres.

COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

After completing this course, students will be able to…


1. differentiate the various 21st century literary genres and the ones form the earlier genres/periods citing their elements, structures and traditions;
2. explain the literary, biographical, linguistic, and socio cultural contexts and discuss how they enhance the text’s meaning and enrich the readers understanding;
3. identify the characteristics of each literary periods and explain the cultural and contextual situations during each literary period ;
4. interpret historical, cultural and biographical background of different literary text; and
5. relate the theme or the message of the literary works to real life situation in our country and in the world.
