Chapter 2 (SOFTCOPY)

This document discusses developing an automated student attendance monitoring system using near field communication (NFC) technology for the College of Computer Studies at Columban College in Olongapo City. It provides an overview of related work on the role of attendance in higher education and existing attendance monitoring systems. The proposed system would use NFC tags embedded in student ID cards and an NFC reader to record attendance data to a server. The conceptual framework involves implementing a prototype NFC-based attendance monitoring system to address inconsistencies in current manual systems.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Technical Background

The Near Field Communication (NFC) technology provides a good opportunity to

support the automated execution of several education related processes. It focuses on an
in-depth review of work done in the field of class attendance management. It focuses on
the role of class attendance in institutions of higher learning, the correlation between
attendance and academic performance as well as attendance monitoring systems which
have been implemented in other institutions across the world. Later in the chapter NFC
technology will be discussed, and finally an analysis of models, frameworks and
architectures of class attendance monitoring systems.

Related Literature

Local Literature

NFC attendance monitoring system is a system that using a NFC. The NFC tags
which are embedded to the students ID cards and NFC Attendance reader which is likely
computer. This system records the student’s attendance to an attendance application
server.

Foreign Literature

The NFC Attendance Monitoring Systems which was introduced in 2002

by both Sony and Philips in 2002. Attendance is a very crucial component in many
institutions and companies, and it's one of the important criteria to follow for students and
organization personnel, according to the Attendance Monitoring System employing NFC
tags, which is further explained.

Synthesis

This is a description of the design and prototype of a modern attendance

monitoring system for offering a platform for the efficient management of acquired data
while using NFC for identification and verification. from the attendance data. Research
have looked into the importance of managing and monitoring attendance, and
development of automated processes, accelerated attendance monitoring, and verification
of the data obtained during the act of taking attendance while utilizing technology.

Related Systems

The main objective of our system has presented an NFC attendance monitoring
system. based on attendance system for the students capable of recording and tracking
students’ attendance in the classrooms.

Conceptual Framework

Implement a prototype automated student attendance system with NFC system.

NFC Attendance monitoring systems are an integral part of educational institutes and
corporate sectors. These systems have undergone a phenomenal change, from basic
manual attendance to NFC based attendance system. The existing attendance systems are
tedious and riddled with inconsistencies.
