Science Lesson 1 What Is A Habitat
Science Lesson 1 What Is A Habitat
Learning Targets/Objectives
● The goal is for Students to understand the different habitats that animals live in
● Students should be able to understand which animals live in what habitat
● students should be able to understand what habitats are around where they live
Summative if applicable
Subject Matter/science/What is a habitat
Prerequisites
● Students having a basic understanding of what a animal habitat is
● students having a basic understanding of which animal lives in which habitat
● students having a basic understanding of what habitats do they have in their state
Content/Facts
● What is a habitat: A habitat is a resource used by a particular species ( the
habitat of a species) or an assemblage of animals and plants together with their
abiotic environment.
● what is a PA habitat: A Pa habitat consists of forests, grassland and herbaceous
openings, barrens ,wetlands and urban and suburban communities.
Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies
● The teacher will give students a minute to get ready to start science class for the day
● The teacher will introduce the new topic what is a animal habitat
● The teacher will then pull up the power point for first grade on the different habitats
● The teacher will then run through the powerpoint and ask the students if they have any
questions.
● The teacher will then do the cut and match habitat worksheet with the whole class
Development/Teaching Approaches
● The teacher will start the powerpoint and read through with asking students engaging
questions throughout the power point such as:
● Does anyone know the different habitats that we have there are (5)
● What animals live in the different habitats (ocean, rainforest, desert the antarctic and
the woods)
- What is a habitat?
- Why do you think more animals live in the rainforest compared to the desert?
- Why do you think that no communities of people live in the antarctic?
- How do fish use the coral reef to meet their needs?
- Does anyone know what habitats we have around us in Pa
● Once the teacher is done explaining and talking about habitats the
teacher will then have the paper pacers pass out the cut and match
habitats.
● The teacher will will explain the directions of the activity
● The teacher will then do the activity as a whole group
● Once the class is done doing the activity the first grade class will do a
movement break.
Closure/Summarizing Strategies
● Allowing students time to do the cut and match habitat worksheet
● Allowing students time to ask questions about the different habitats
● Allowing students time to ask about the different pa habitats that are in their area
● Allowing students to ask what animals live in the different habitats
