● At the direction of the teacher they will go over what is a habitat with an engaging
powerpoint.
● The teacher will also do the cut and match the habitat with the students on the smart
board.

● Students having a basic understanding of what a animal habitat is
● students having a basic understanding of which animal lives in which habitat
● students having a basic understanding of what habitats do they have in their state

● Learning about different habitats: learning about new habitats helps experience new
nature and connect to our surroundings and can help us understand why it is important
to conserve, protect and restore the natural environment.

Content/Facts
● What is a habitat: A habitat is a resource used by a particular species ( the
habitat of a species) or an assemblage of animals and plants together with their
abiotic environment.
● what is a PA habitat: A Pa habitat consists of forests, grassland and herbaceous
openings, barrens ,wetlands and urban and suburban communities.

Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies
● The teacher will give students a minute to get ready to start science class for the day
● The teacher will introduce the new topic what is a animal habitat
● The teacher will then pull up the power point for first grade on the different habitats
● The teacher will then run through the powerpoint and ask the students if they have any
questions.
● The teacher will then do the cut and match habitat worksheet with the whole class

Development/Teaching Approaches
● The teacher will start the powerpoint and read through with asking students engaging
questions throughout the power point such as:
● Does anyone know the different habitats that we have there are (5)
● What animals live in the different habitats (ocean, rainforest, desert the antarctic and
the woods)
- What is a habitat?
- Why do you think more animals live in the rainforest compared to the desert?
- Why do you think that no communities of people live in the antarctic?
- How do fish use the coral reef to meet their needs?
- Does anyone know what habitats we have around us in Pa
● Once the teacher is done explaining and talking about habitats the
teacher will then have the paper pacers pass out the cut and match
habitats.
● The teacher will will explain the directions of the activity
● The teacher will then do the activity as a whole group
● Once the class is done doing the activity the first grade class will do a
movement break.

● Allowing students time to do the cut and match habitat worksheet
● Allowing students time to ask questions about the different habitats
● Allowing students time to ask about the different pa habitats that are in their area
● Allowing students to ask what animals live in the different habitats
