The document outlines a lesson plan for a 9th grade mathematics class that focuses on identifying quadrilaterals and the conditions that make a quadrilateral a parallelogram, including having two pairs of parallel sides, two pairs of congruent opposite sides, two pairs of congruent opposite angles, consecutive angles that are supplementary, diagonals that bisect each other, and diagonals that divide the figure into two congruent triangles. The lesson includes learning objectives, content, activities, examples, and practice problems for students to determine whether different quadrilaterals meet the criteria to be classified as parallelograms.

3. Activity Activity 2. Plot. Connect. Identify

Directions: Form group of three (3). Plot the following sets of points in the Cartesian plane. Connect each set of
points consecutively. (Cartesian plane is provided for each group).
1. (-1, 2); (-1, 0); (1, 0); (1, 2)
2. (1, 0); (3, 0); (1,-2); (3, 2)
3. (-4, -2); (-4, -4); (0, -2); (0,- 4)
4. (3, 4); (2, 2); (3, 0); (4, 2)
5. (-4, 2); (-5, 1); (-3, 1); (-4, -2)
6. (-2, 4); (-4, 2); (-1, 2); (1, 4)

Questions:
In each group what shape did you formed? How many sides? How many vertices?
Do you know the specific name of the quadrilateral you created?
What do you call the square, rhombus, kite, parallelogram and rectangle?
4. Discussion
Quadrilateral-is a close plane figure consisting of four line segments or sides.
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite sides that are parallel.

Conditions that makes a Quadrilateral a parallelogram.

1. A Quadrilateral is a parallelogram if both pairs of opposite sides are congruent

The pairs of opposite sides are

side AR and side CE; and side RE.
Then the measures of side AR = 6.40cm and
measure of side CE= 6.40cm; also measure
of side AC =3.43cm and measure of RE=
3.43cm.

Therefore, quadrilateral CARE is a parallelogram.

2. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if both pairs of opposite angle are congruent.

The pairs of opposite angles are ∠

A and ∠ H; ∠ M and ∠T.

The measures of ∠A=120° and the

measures of ∠H =120°; also
measure of ∠M = 60° and the
measure of ∠T=60°.
Therefore, quadrilateral MATH is a parallelogram.

The pairs of consecutive angles

3. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if both pairs of consecutive angles are
supplementary. are ∠ A and ∠ T; ∠ T and ∠H; ∠
M and ∠ H; ∠ A and ∠ M.

The measure of ∠M=60° ;
m∠A=120°; m∠T=60°; and
m∠H=120°.
∠A + ∠T = 120°+60° = 180°
∠ T + ∠H = 60°+120° = 180°
∠M + ∠H = 60°+120° = 180°
∠A + ∠M = 120°+60° = 180°
Therefore, quadrilateral MATH is a parallelogram.

4. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if the diagonals bisect each other.

A diagonal is a line segment joining two non consecutive vertices of a polygon.
A line segment bisects another line segment if it divides the segment into two congruent parts.

5. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if each diagonal divides a parallelogram into two congruent triangles.

6. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if one pair of opposite sides are both congruent and parallel.

How do we know that a quadrilateral is a parallelogram?

How do we know that a quadrilateral is not a parallelogram?
How do you differentiate a parallelogram from a trapezoid?

5. Application
A. Read and analyse the situation and solve the following problems.
1. How can a Iloilo Builders Corporation (IBC) contractor be sure that a concrete slab is rectangular without
measuring its angle?

2. The trademark of AZ lighting based on the parallelogram. Why are the bars equal?

3. Mia can build the frame for a book case. How could she use the properties of quadrilaterals to position the
Page 6 of 6
shelves so that they are parallel to the base of the frame?

B. Solve the following problems.

1. Given the parallelogram ABCD with the measure ∠B=3x+36 and m ∠D=6x-6. Find the measure of the four
angles?

2. Two consecutive angles of a parallelogram have measures (x+30) and (3x-90) respectively. Determine the
measure of each angle of a parallelogram.

3. The King Family needs to replace several balusters in a railing. Which properties guarantee that balusters
have the same length?

6. Generalization What is quadrilateral?

What are the kinds of quadrilaterals? Define them.
How can we identify if the quadrilaterals is a parallelogram or not?
What are the conditions that guarantee a quadrilateral a parallelogram?

VI. EVALUATION Test I. Identify each quadrilateral in the diagram below.
