This document contains a home assignment for an Antennas and Wave Propagation course. It lists 10 problems covering various course outcomes including analyzing current distributions and power radiation, understanding fundamentals of different antenna types and arrays, designing resonant and non-resonant antennas, and understanding wave propagation mechanisms. The problems involve concepts like directive gain, radiation resistance, field strength, array patterns, helical antenna radiation, parabolic reflector parameters, radio horizon, and maximum usable frequency.

Home Assignment
Submission Date15-12-2021
CO1 Analyze the Current distributions & power radiation of different radiating elements
CO2 Understand the antenna fundamentals and obtain radiation
pattern of various types of antenna arrays.
CO3 Design resonant, non-resonant, HF, VHF, and UHF antennas.
CO4 Understand the characteristics of different wave propagation mechanisms.

1. CO1 An isotropic antenna produce 2mw/m2 at a distance of 3 km in a given direction

requires to radiate 2.8kw, where as a directional array only 140w. Find the directive
gain of the directional antenna in db.
2. CO1 Antenna has a radiation resistance of 72 Ω, loss resistance of 8 Ω, and a power gain of
12db.Determinr the antenna efficiency and directivity.
3. CO2 A loop aerial operating at 500KHz is of height 0.6m, width 0.7m and 25 turns. When
directed to receive maximum signal, the emf induced in the loop is 160μV. Estimate
the field strength of the received signal.
4. CO2 For an end fire array consisting of several half wave length long isotropic radiators is to
have a directive gain of 30. Find the array length width of the major lobe. what will be
these values for a broadside array?
5. CO2 Find the radiation pattern of four isotropic elements fed in phase, spaced λ/2 apart by
using pattern multiplication.
6. CO3 Derive the expression for pitch angle get circularly polarized radiation pattern for a
helical antenna operating in boardside mode and sketch its pattern
7. CO3 Estimate the diameter of a parabolic reflector with large circular aperture to produce a
beam of 60 width at 2GHz. Also, determine its directivity and Beam-area.
8. CO4 What is the radio horizon of a television antenna placed at a height of 166m? If the
signal is to be received at a distance of 66km,what should be the height of the receiving
antenna?
9. CO4 A high frequency radio link has to be established between two points at distance of
2500km on earth’s surface. Considering the ionosphere height to be 200km and its
critical frequency is 5MHz, calculate MUF foe given path?
10. CO4 The field strength at a receiving antenna mounted at a height of 16m at a distance of
12km and the distance at which the field strength reduces to 1mv/m.
