Case Study #7
Facebook is a social media platform that over 2 billion users have chosen as their
communication application. Facebook was in crisis due to various scandals of the CEO,
Mark Zuckerberg, such as personal information leakage and suspicion of covering up
Russia's involvement in the US presidential election in 2016, which had led to voices
raising concerns about Zuckerberg's leadership and security concerns in using
Facebook.

A solution that Facebook did was to increase transparency for everyone who sees
and buys political advertising on its site. Facebook has revealed that approximately
$100,000 worth of ads have been sold to inauthentic accounts and pages during the
2016 presidential election. Facebook attempted to solve this issue by improving its ad
transparency, which means that Facebook will now verify political ad buyers in federal
elections, requiring them to provide real names and locations and create new visuals
where users can click on the ads and find out more about who is behind them.
Mark Zuckerberg was very firm when he decided that he would not step down as a
chairman of Facebook. He was amenable though that Sheryl Sandberg has a massive
contribution to the growth of Facebook. The issues that were raised were addressed by
the company. Since there is no perfect organization, there is always a growth for
improvement. What matters more is having an open mind to accept criticisms to stay in
the industry, and that is what the Facebook CEO does; he takes criticisms and
challenges. Those criticisms that were trying to pull him down as the CEO of Facebook
just proved that he is really the one for the position. Communication is definitely a part
of this issue. We believe that, as long as he knows who is right, everything will come to
peace. As he said in the interview, "I think life is about learning from the mistakes and
figuring out what you need to do to move forward."; this proves that he is open to
criticisms and that he and his co-founder and employees could get through this issue,
as long as they know that they are still fighting for what is right.
