Sir:

Greetings!

The Buenavista Elementary School and Maligaya Elementary are tied up in a School to
School Parnertships. Another predominant setback that the Buenavista Elementary School is
meeting at present is the problem on waste management. To resolve this issue, the proponents will
conduct school based seminar-workshop which aim to inform, educate, develop and boost the
knowledge and skills of the teachers on waste disposal, waste segregation, waste reduction and
development and improvement of MRF. The seminar-workshop also aims to develop a Material
Recovery Facility as the final output of the EPP teachers.

With this regard, we would like to ask your approval to conduct a School Based Seminar
Workshop on Ecological Solid Waste Management and Development of School Material Recovery
facility which is scheduled on November 4-5, 2016 and November 18-19, 2016 from 1:00 A.M. -
5:00 P.M at Buenavista Elementary School.

We are hoping for your kind consideration and approval of this request. Thank you and
More Power!

Very truly yours,

BENJAMIN M. MARTINEZ
Principal II-Maligaya ES

ROBEN C. GAITE
Head Teacher II-Buenavista ES

II. RATIONALE:

The common issue that every school meets when it comes to waste management is the
problem on waste disposal. This problem may be attributable to some factors such as lack of
information on waste management, lack of existing facilities on garbage disposal, absence of
Material Recovery Facility, lack of discipline among pupils, improper method of collection of
waste, absence of compost pits, heaps and others. This problem is also met in Buenavista
Elementary School. The school collects a minimum of 5 sacks of wastes per week wherein 50% of
the waste generated comes from grasses and dry leaves, while the remaining 50% comes from used
papers, plastics and kitchen waste. The method of collection and transfer is through small cans or
waste baskets. There are no available garbage disposal facilities such as sorters, wheelbarrows, or
empty drums. The school has no MRF that is why most often, the garbage and waste are dumped at
the back of school buildings. In worst cases, the garbage and waste are burned in an open area
inside the school grounds.
To resolve this issue, the school heads of Buenavista Elementary School and Maligaya
Elementary School are jointly working through a partnership. The ideal solution that both school
heads developed is to conduct a school based seminar workshop in the form of School Learning
Action Cell sessions which aim to inform, educate, develop and boost the knowledge and skills of
the teachers on waste disposal, waste segregation, waste reduction and development and
improvement of MRF. The seminar-workshop also aims to develop a Material Recovery Facility as
the final output of the EPP teachers.

III. OBJECTIVES

1. To inform, educate, develop and boost the knowledge and skills of the teachers on waste
disposal, waste segregation, waste reduction and development and improvement of MRF.
2. To develop a Material Recovery Facility as the final output of the EPP teachers.
3. To train teachers on the development of improvised sorters and waste disposal materials.
4. To educate teacher s on how to develop and maintain compost pits and compost heaps.
