Summary
Working in conjunction with Norris-Blain Network Consulting, the IT staff at Spruce & Cooper has
completed the first step in upgrading the company’s network, which involved improving wireless access
and replacing some hardware. The second step focuses on security and has two parts: 1) providing
network security training for all employees; and 2) installing Web Secure Portal Plus, a cybersecurity
application that includes antivirus protection and multi-vector monitoring for cloud-based threats.
The security training will be provided by Norris-Blain Network Consulting and will focus on new
security requirements for the wireless network. When completed, the security training will help ensure
that the company network remains safe and reliable as we face the challenges of our expanded market
position. The IT staff of Spruce & Cooper will install Web Secure Portal Plus on all desktop computers,
laptops, and servers. The security training will include best practices for managing Web Secure Portal
Plus.

Security Training Levels

Each staff member will be assigned to one of three training levels. General users must complete multiple
one-hour Level 1 classes to be held onsite at Spruce & Cooper. Department managers will be assigned to
a one-day Level 2 training session on basic system administration and security management. The
company’s network managers and all IT staff must complete a two-day Level 3 security training seminar
at the offices of Norris-Blain Network Consulting. Level 3 training will be supplemented with ongoing
monthly education on emerging network threats.

Norris-Blain Network Consulting

The instructors at Norris-Blain Network Consulting specialize in end-user support, network upgrade
project management, and security infrastructure audits. The company’s training team combines classroom
lectures with hands-on exercises designed to give students immediate, successful experiences with new
technologies. Members of the Norris-Blain training team have won numerous teaching awards and
volunteer their time at high schools throughout the area.

Planning for Level 1 Sessions

The Level 1 training classes will be held in the River View conference room. Five laptops will be
available for participants to share. However, because all software training screens will be projected on the
main screen, access to a computer is not required. The training team from Norris-Blain Network
Consulting will need access to the conference room one hour before each training session begins.

Schedule
The dates for Level 2 and Level 3 training are flexible, as long as all training is completed by the end of
August. Network managers are free to set up their department’s training dates with the appropriate
instructors at Norris-Blain. Level 1 training will begin in May and continue through the summer and early
fall. Topics will be covered in the order shown in the following schedule:

Web Secure Portal Plus is a subscription service that offers a variety of protection options. Norris-Blain
Network Consulting recommends the options described in the following table:
