INTRODUCTION
In this SBA you will be enlightened on the crop sweet pepper which is a cultivar group of the
species Capsicum Annuum .Sweet peppers can tolerate a wide range of climatic conditions and
grow quite well. A wide variety of sweet peppers are grown in the Caribbean, some of the
varieties include the canape, bullnose and the kegotone resistant.
LOCATION
The sweet peppers were grown in the North East Comprehensive School garden which is situated
behind the clothing and textile room in green house number one. The location was chosen
because it made it easier for the students to take care of the plants.
DURATION
The sweet peppers were cultivated for a period of 60 – 95 days until they were fully matured and
ready for harvest.
SCHEDULE OF OPERATIONS/ACTIVITIES
DATE OPERATION

- Plastic bags
- Hoe
- Cutlasses
- Rake
- Tiller
- Pen manure
- Seedlings
- Trowel
- N.P.K fertilizer
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES
1. TRANSPLANTING:
The three weeks old seedlings were transplanted in the morning; this was done to avoid wilting
of the plants. The trays were watered so it did not interfere with the roots .The seedlings were
space at 20 to 30 cm per plant. The plants were watered after transplanting to help keep the
plants tuiges.
2. IRRIGATION:
The sweet peppers were irrigated twice a day for 20 – 25 minutes using the dripping system in an
effort to prevent wilting and promote healthy growth.
3. FERTILIZATION APPLICATION:
N.P.K was applied to the sweet peppers to promote good growth .Over the weeks nutria-growth
were also applied to the plants which helps ensure that the plants has all the nutrients and
minerals needed.
4. WEED CONTROL:
Weeding was done every week to avoid the weeds taking over the peppers. This avoided
competition for sun light, water and other soil nutrients between the weeds and sweet pepper
plants.
5. MOLDING:
The sweet peppers were molded on a frequent basis .Molding is a practice which involves the
gathering of soil around the plants .This is done to facilitate proper aeration and to help keep the
plants upright.
6. PRUNING:
The plants were pruned using a sharp knife to remove dry twigs and branches; this is important
to improve the shape of the plant and encourages growth and development of fewer but larger
fruits.
7. HARVESTING:
Harvesting was done in preparations for marketing. The sweet peppers were harvested by hands
when they were fully matured .They were then washed, packaged, weighed and sold.
PROJECTED INCOME
ITEMS QUANTITY UNIT COST TOTAL COST
PROJECTED EXPENDITURE
ACTUAL EXPENDITURE
ITEMS QUANTITY PRICE TOTAL COST
ANALYSIS
The projected income was $ 1,000.00 and the actual income was $1,750.00, a significant
difference of $750.00. The projected expenses and the actual expenses were the same in the
amount of $158.00.
The actual surplus was $592.00 more than the projected surplus, this was realized because of an
increase in the actual quantity as compared to the then projected amount.
GENERAL COMMMENTS
Due to the proper care of the sweet peppers the project was very successful. The students played
a very active role in the care for the plants which made the project very efficient. The students
learned very vital information in respect to cultivation and harvesting of the sweet peppers.
The production encouraged students to start their own back yard garden since this proves to be a
very profitable crop.
RECOMMENDATION
To improve the sweet pepper production, the researcher recommends that the agricultural
department produce their own compost which will significantly save the department money in
the future.
CONCLUSION
This project was a very good experience. The students engaged themselves in a small scale sweet
pepper production project which made a profit for the agricultural science department of the
school.
