Activity 1: I AM MENTALLY HEALTHY

K
Initially, the knowledge I have of the core values is that it is a
series of beliefs that a person upholds that define them as a human
being.

W
I want to learn the actual meaning of the core values of
community action.

L
I have learned that dignity is the most important value a person
can have. With dignity naturally comes the more specific core values
such as being physical, spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, economic
and political. I have also learned about human rights , the myths and
misconceptions about it and its principles. Furthermore, social equity,
gender equality, participatory development and empowerment were
also taught to us.

Activity: Think It! Write it Up!

1. The core values I want to acquire in our society is definitely gender

equality. Being a part of the LGBTQ Community is one thing, but more
importantly, I want to break the gender stereotypes that stemmed from
the lack of gender equality. The Philippines is more traditional than
one might think; some Filipinos are still homophobic and some still
believe in the notion that women only belong in the kitchen. In this
modern day and age, this is extremely problematic as it mirrors the
olden beliefs that modernization failed to erase. In the stricter
implementation of gender equality, I am hoping that women are
treated and seen as equal; that women can also work in construction
sites without judging or sympathetic eyes and men can dress or use
make up without quiet murmurs of disdain and disgust.

2. Yes, because in this way, people will be more knowledgeable of the

importance of these four core values, thus making it easier to
implement and uphold them.

3. One can be called an educated person if they are aware of the

issues in the community and are knowledgeable in the ways they can
overcome it.

Activity: Let’s Do It

1. Participatory development, from the name itself, is all about

participation. Commitment and action are linked factors that contribute
to its progress. A person committed to their job is always going to be
more productive than someone who is not thus allowing them to make
more actions. Simply put, more commitment is equivalent to more
action which will then result in the fast completion of the process
involving participatory development.

2. Community initiative is a person or organization set on helping the

community become better. They are individuals or groups dedicated to
improving the state of the community.

3. Participatory development is important because it is a step forward

to uniting the whole community. It helps raise the quality of
participation in local societies towards the realization of the community
core values.

4. We can improve the well being of the community through practicing

the core values taught in this lesson. Through this, every member of
the community is participating towards the wellness of the community
and will never be left behind, allowing everyone to adopt and
completely forget the way people have lived prior to the practice of the
community core values.

Activity: My Core Values

● I support it because I think the only purpose in life is to seek

happiness. As long as a person is happy, they would desire to
live, and the opposite otherwise. I think the pursuit of happiness
equates to the desire to live.
● The first thing that comes to mind upon the word social justice is
when people are treating everyone in the society with utmost
respect without any single tinge of malice or discrimination.
● I think the most important stage is the evaluation stage because
it is the part where the action is put into test whether it is
effective, needs improvement or satisfactory. It is the part where
things are assessed whether successful or not and will define the
next plans so it is the end and the beginning, warranting it the
most important for me.
● No. The man shouldn't, unless the woman is pregnant, an elderly
or a person with disability. Women are just as strong as men,
they can do everything that is humanly possible and thus, they
don’t need any pampering from strangers. The same goes for
women; she must only offer her seat to pregnant women, elderly
and PWDs.

Core Values Rating 1-10 What will you do to
improve such a
rating?
1. Human Rights 5 Though basic human
rights are served to
people, some are still
being violated
blatantly. To improve
this, I will start with
myself by not
violating other
people’s human
rights.
2. Social Justice 4 The rich get richer
and the poor get
poorer, that’s how
bad social justice is in
our country. With this
in mind, as merely a
student, I can only
wait for the action of
the government.
3. Participatory 8 The Philippines is
Development known for Bayanihan
hence the high rating
for this one. To
improve this, we only
need to uphold this
practice and never let
it disappear
completely.

4. Gender Equality 3 The Philippines is
passive aggressive
towards this issue.
They don’t talk about
this issue much but
most Filipinos still
think gay people are
disgusting and
women only deserve
to be in the kitchen.
As a student, I can
improve this by
ensuring that the
people of my status
and standing, like my
co-students and the
people my age, are
accepting towards
the differences of
everybody.

Reflection

As a student who likes to play games and is a member of the

gay community, I want to keep my gaming space as free from
homophobia as possible through making sure that none of the gamers
I encounter are homophobic. This doesn’t only apply to homophobia
though, as I'd also keep watch of misogyny and racism. In this way, I
can be the watchdog that prevents proprietors from committing their
crimes. This is related to the principles and core values because it is
directly affecting the state of gender equality in the community.
Through this initiative, i am trying to improve gender equality.
