Evolution of Human & Elephant

Human evolution occurred over approximately 6 million years as humans originated from apelike ancestors in Africa. Early humans like Australopithecus had traits like walking upright on two legs but more advanced traits like complex tool use and language developed more recently. Modern humans emerged around 200,000 years ago in Africa and have continued to evolve and spread worldwide.

Evolution of Human

 Human evolution is the lengthy process of

change by which people originated from apelike
ancestors.
 Scientific evidence shows that the physical and
behavioral traits shared by all people originated
from apelike ancestors and evolved over a
period of approximately six million years.
 the ability to walk on two legs -- evolved over 4
million years ago.
 Other important human characteristics -- such
as a large and complex brain, the ability to
make and use tools, and the capacity for
language -- developed more recently.
Many advanced traits -- including complex
symbolic expression, art, and elaborate cultural
diversity -- emerged mainly during the past
100,000 years.
Homo sapiens, has a very close relationship to
another group of primate species, the apes.
Humans first evolved in Africa, and much of
human evolution occurred on that continent.
The fossils of early humans who lived between 6
and 2 million years ago come entirely from
Africa.
Stages of Human Evolution
 Propliopithecus
 Aegyptopithecus
 Dryopithecus
 Ramapithecus
 Australopithecus
 Homo Erectus
 Heidelberg Man
 Rhodesian Man
 Neanderthal Man
 Cro-Magnon Man
Propliopithecus
 Ape-like Primate
 Short arms
 Lived in oligocene period
 Ancestor of modern apes and man
Aegyptopithecus
 Fossil Ape
 Similar to Propliopithecus
 Lived in Miocene period
Dryopithecus
 Lived in Miocene period
 Descendent from Propliopithecus
 Fore limbs shorten than Hind limbs
 Distant ancestor of man
Ramapithecus
Ape-man
Lived in late miocene and early pliocene
period
Fossil contains only jaws and dentition
 Collected from India and Africa
Ancestor from 12-14 millions years
Primitive to Australopithecus
Australopithecus
 Ape-man.
 Connecting link between man and ape.
 Australopithecus Africanus is a common fossil

Human characters of Australopithecus

 Erect posture with 4 feet height
 Bipedal locomotion
 Basin like pelvic girdle
 Dentition like man
 Hands used for non locomotory functions
Homo Erectus
 First True man.
 Primitive man.
 Connecting link between Ape Man and modern man.
 Also called Java man.
 Lived in Java and Peking.

Features
 Bipedal locomotion
 Taller than Australopithecus
 Flattened skull
 Cannibalistic
 They were hunters and gatherers
 Less body hair and black
Heidelberg Man
 Primitive man
 Found near Heidelberg river
 Ancestor to Neanderthal Man
 Homo heidelbergensis
 Cranial capacity was believed to be
about 1300cc
Rhodesian Man
Primitive man
Found in Rhodesia
Lived in late pliocene period
Receding forehead
Neanderthal Man
 Advanced primitive man
 Found in Neander Valley
 Originated about 1,50,000 years ago
 Extinct about 25,000 years ago
 Homo neanderthalensis

Features
 Slightly shorter than modern man
 Low forehead
 Large teeth
 Skillful use of tools
 Developed speach
Cro-Magnon Man
 Extinct modern man

 Originated about 3 millions years ago

 Extinct about 20,000 years ago

 Lived in old Stone age

 Lived in caves

 They were hunters

Modern man
1. Member of any of the living races of Homo
sapiens.
2. Characterized by bipedal posture, a highly
developed brain, and powers of articulate
speech, abstract reasoning and imagination.
3. Average brain size about 1350cm³
Palaeontological Evidences
The four prime important factors in determining the evolutionary
trend of man from ape-like primate are below
1. The growth and elaboration of brain.
2. The perfection of the erect posture.
3. A slowing down of post-natal development.
4. The growth in human population.
Conclusion
1. The appearance of man was a climatic event in
the history of Earth.
2. Man evolved from Ramapithecus to recent man.
3. Evolution was of short span of time i.e
pleistocene to Holocene.
4. Distribution is according to natural resources.
5. Man is the finest product in the evolution.
