1 Overview
The RRU5502 is an outdoor remote radio unit. It is the RF part of a distributed base station
and can be installed near the antenna. The RRU5502 modulates and demodulates baseband
and RF signals, processes data, amplifies power for signals, and supports voltage standing
wave ratio (VSWR) tests.
With the software-defined radio (SDR) technology, the RRU5502 can work in multiple modes
through software configuration.
The RRU5502 adopts a 4T4R design, which further improves the output power and carrier
capacity.
1.1 Appearance
Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of the RRU5502.
From SRAN12.1 onwards, the RRU5502 (1800 MHz) can work in NB-IoT mode.
From SRAN15.0 onwards, the RRU5502 (1800 MHz) can work in NR FDD mode in the uplink by
using the LTE FDD and NR uplink spectrum sharing feature, which means that the RRU5502
supports NR SUL.
From SRAN15.1 onwards, the RRU5502 (2100 MHz) can work in NR FDD mode in the uplink by
using the LTE FDD and NR uplink spectrum sharing feature, which means that the RRU5502
supports NR SUL.
From SRAN16.0 onwards, the RRU5502 (1800 MHz)/RRU5502 (2100 MHz) can work in NR FDD
mode by using the LTE FDD and NR spectrum sharing feature.
RRU5502 (AWS+PCS)
The software version of the RRU5502 (AWS+PCS) is SRAN15.1 and is compatible with the
N–1 and N–2 versions of MBTS, MBSC, and OSS NEs. Therefore, the RRU5502 can be used
with products of SRAN12.1, SRAN13.1, and SRAN15.1 versions. All these three versions
include the RRU5502 software components. The RRU5502 used in these versions has no
impact on product KPIs.
From SRAN13.1 onwards, the RRU5502 (PCS) can work in NB-IoT mode.
From SRAN15.1 onwards, the RRU5502 (AWS) can work in NR FDD mode in the uplink by using
the LTE FDD and NR uplink spectrum sharing feature, which means that the RRU5502 supports NR
SUL.
From SRAN15.1 onwards, the RRU5502 (AWS+PCS) supports the NB-IoT multi-carrier function.
2 Technical Specifications
The RRU5502 (1800 MHz+2100 MHz) can work in the 1800 MHz or 2100 MHz frequency band or
on both bands at the same time
The RRU5502 (AWS+PCS) can work on the AWS or PCS frequency band or on both bands at the
same time.
When the RRU5502 works on one frequency band, frequency band is used to indicate the band.
When the RRU5502 works on multiple frequency bands at the same time, frequency band
1+frequency band 2 is used to indicate the bands. For example, RRU5502 (1800 MHz+2100 MHz).

The GSM receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 51.021, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 13 kbit/s and the bit error rate (BER) is lower than
or equal to 2%.
The UMTS receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 25.104, is measured at the antenna
connector assuming that the channel rate reaches 12.2 kbit/s and the BER is lower than or equal to
0.1%.
The LTE FDD receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 5 MHz
bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
The LTE NB-IoT receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, is measured under a 200
KHz bandwidth and a 15 KHz subcarrier spacing based on the FRC A14-1 in Annex A.14 (π/2
BPSK, R = 1/3, 1 RB) standard.
The NR FDD receiver sensitivity, as recommended in 3GPP TS 38.104, is measured under a 5 MHz
bandwidth based on the Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3) standard.

The typical power consumption of an RF module is measured when the ambient temperature is 25°C and
the traffic load reaches 50%. The actual power consumption has a 10% deviation from this value.
Item Specifications
Input power –48 V DC; voltage range: –36 V DC to –57 V DC
DC RRUs can use external power modules (such as AC/DC power modules, OPM15M, and OPM50M)
to support AC scenarios. For details about the external power modules, see user guides of the
corresponding models.

RRU temporarily decreases when the RRU reaches a temperature 10°C less than its maximum operating
temperature.
