The Living Conditions of Students in

This document discusses the living conditions of students who live in transient homes while attending school. It notes that living away from home can cause homesickness for students. It also suggests that the independent environment of transient homes may enable risky behaviors among students like teenage pregnancy. Specifically, the document raises concerns that boarding houses have less security and supervision than dormitories, allowing students privacy with fewer restrictions, which could lead to increased sexual activity and unintended pregnancy among adolescent students living on their own for the first time.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Rationale

As the old saying goes, “Home is where the heart is” and according to

Cambridge Dictionary (2017), home is someone's or something’s place of origin

where a person feels where they belong. Our home represents more than our

financial assets. For better worse, our home also represents the success of our

parents. But there's a moment when we have to say goodbye to that particular home

to live independently. Especially those students from far places usually resort to stay

in temporary dwellings or housing facilities known as transient houses(Arana, n.d.),

(Navarez, 2017).

Harrow International School in Hong Kong asserted that, the most common

problem and one which is experienced by almost every students is homesickness.

From a professional point of view, living in transient houses is often referred to as

“planned separation”. Homesickness is tough on both parents and students.

Sympathetic encouragement is the best way forward, but it is advisable for parents

to keep contact to a minimum as this can make the matter worse. (Harrow

International School, 2018).

According to a recent survey, there were more teenage pregnancies in

Benguet in 2017.Concerned organizations like DSWD, DepEd, and DOH have put

measures in place to reduce its increase because this has been an issue in the past.

The suggestion is that parents should closely monitor their adolescent children first

appeared. The great desire to use birth protection is another factor if young people's
sexual behaviors cannot genuinely be restricted. Young people can meet in the most

accessible setting such as boarding house. IDs are not checked at the entrances or

doors. The security personnel are either not at home or busy. Certain people are

subject to curfew. Just a select handful refuse to accept strangers. Once inside their

room, students find a haven of independence. They have the freedom to do whatever

they want in order to express themselves since they believe the world is too harsh

for them. The expression is typically one of limitless love and sex.(Sunstar

Publication, Inc. 2018).
