Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning at home. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage
and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

As a learner, you must learn to become responsible of your own learning. Take
time to read, understand, and perform the different activities in the module.
As you go through the different activities of this module be reminded of the
following:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let Us Try before moving on to the other activities.
3. Read the instructions carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are done.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not
hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are not
alone. We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning
and gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

Let Us Study
As we go along, you will encounter different real life situations that will
further develop your analytical skills. In this module, you will apply the different
theorems and postulates learned in the previous lesson to solve real life problems.

Direction: Read, understand, and explore the problem, find and use the strategy to
solve and finalize on the solution.

Let Us Remember
Problem solving is about solving problems in real life situations. These
are important points that will make problem solving easy to solve:

A. (IGAFS Technique)
1. Read, explore, and understand the problem;
2. Illustrate to visualize and easy to comprehend;
3. Lists all necessary given that will lead to what is required;
4. Analyze what is asked or required
5. Formulate correct equation to solve for the unknown; and
6. Show the solutions.

B. Theorems and postulates

1. Similar polygons – are polygons with congruent corresponding angles and
proportional corresponding sides.
2. AAA Similarity Postulate – If the three angles of one triangle are congruent
to three angles of another triangle, then the two triangles are similar.
3. SSS Similarity Theorem – Two triangles are similar if the corresponding
sides of two triangles are in proportion.
4. SAS Similarity Theorem – Two triangles are similar if an angle of one
triangle is congruent to an angle of another triangle and the corresponding
sides including those angles are in proportion.
5. Triangle Angle-Bisector Theorem – If a segment bisects an angle of a
triangle, then it divides the opposite side into segments proportional to the
other two sides.
6. Triangle Proportionality Theorem – If a line parallel to one side of a
triangle intersects the other two sides, then it divides those sides
proportionally.
7. Right Triangle Similarity Theorem – If the altitude is drawn to the
hypotenuse of a right triangle, then the two triangles formed are similar to
the original triangle and to each other.
8. Pythagorean Theorem – The square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is
equal to the sum of the squares of the legs. c2 = a2 + b2
9. 45-45-90 Right Triangle Theorem –
√#
• each leg l is times the hypotenuse h; and
#
• the hypotenuse h is √2 times each leg l.

10. 30-60-90 Right Triangle Theorem –

$ √%
• the shorter leg s is #
the hypotenuse h or %
times the longer leg l;
• the longer leg l is √3 times the shorter leg s; and
• the hypotenuse is twice the shorter leg s.
