Date November 10, 2022 9:00 AM

SUBJECT: Conduct of the CY 2022 Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous

Earthquake Drill (NSED)
Overview The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) is held quarterly to
ensure the ability of the country's respective LGUs and the government to
prepare for earthquakes holistically. Furthermore, it contributes to
increased public awareness of earthquake preparedness as it underpins
ensuring public safety.
Objectives The objectives of the NSED is to improve participants' and the general
public's understanding of the immediate steps to be taken when an
earthquake occurs. It also serves as a systematic approach to revising
approaches in earthquake preparedness.
Participants All LGU and national offices, DepEd , Barangays especially the targeted
and other audiences ( Persons with Disabilities, Victims of Disasters and Calamities,
details Fisherfolks) are encouraged to conduct activities that promote earthquake
preparedness and resilience as well as tsunami awareness while observing
public health measures .

Highlights LGU HINUNDAYAN joined the 4th quarter nationwide simultaneous

earthquake drill at their respective areas last November 10, 2022. The said
drill was mandated by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Council Memorandum No. 21 dated February 03, 2022 “Conduct of the CY
2022 Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill”, offices across all
Departments and Barangays are enjoined to participate in the conduct of
quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

At exactly 9 o’clock in the morning, a ceremonial siren sound blared for one
minute courtesy of the BFP Fire truck for the LGU participants and the Early
Warning System available in the respective barangays and targeted
audiences who participated, as a signal that an earthquake is currently
happening.

This exercise attempts to increase people's awareness of the need to be

ready for unforeseen circumstances. It is specifically meant to carry out the
Duck, Cover, and Hold procedure appropriately; familiarize them with the
assigned/designated evacuation sites; and secure the offices from
unforeseen mishaps brought on by an earthquake's aftershocks and also be
information on what to do before, during and after a tsunami.
Due to bad weather conditions some offices were not able to do the
evacuation drill.

BFP Region 8 Hinundayan Fire Station headed by SF04 Cecilio Cardoza

conducted a brief discussion to the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program
Beneficiaries during their Graduation Ceremony and tackled on what to do
before, during and after an earthquake, tsunami and the difference of an
earthquake and a fire drill. MDRRMO staff also distributed IEC materials on
EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI.

The exercise is the 2nd face-to-face event since the pandemic. The
activity's goal is to ensure that all are prepared in the event of a disaster by
performing DUCK, COVER, HOLD and following the phases of an earthquake
drill (Phase 1: Alarm, Phase 2: Response, Phase 3: Evacuation, Phase 4:
Assembly, Phase 5: Head Count, Phase 6: Report, and Phase 7: Evaluation
and Drill Termination) and all are aware on what to do before, during and
after a TSUNAMI.
