GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT
REPORT
1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the industrial training is for students to get exposure to industrial practices
and acquire some level of practical skills. It is expected that through this, students will obtain
better understanding of industrial practices, identify frequent challenges at the workplace and
come up with possible solutions. This training is part of the general training for all students to
gain firsthand exposure and experience in related industries. An industrial training report
must be submitted at the end of the mandated industrial attachment/internship duration. The
report is expected to demonstrate the acquisition of practical and professional skills in
industry through technical experience, and application of knowledge and skills. Development
of soft skills and communication skills forms part of the industrial training. Students should
confer with their employers to ensure that no confidential material is included in the report.
Students should adhere to these guidelines in the preparation of their reports.
3. REPORT FORMAT
Paper size: A4
Font: Times New Roman
Size: 14 points bold main headings
12 points bold for sub-headings
12 points for all other text
Spacing: 1.5 Line Spacing

4. CONTENTS
i. Title Page
The report should include a title page which should follow the format in the sample shown in
appendix A.
ii. Memorandum of Transmittal
The report should include a memorandum of transmittal following the template provided in
appendix B.
iii. Acknowledgement
In this section, the student should acknowledge the help and support of all the people who
contributed/assisted in completion of the internship and internship report. It should not
exceed one (1) page.
iv. Executive Summary
Executive summary previews every section of the report in a short form. It can be called as
micro image of the report. It helps the reader to get a quick glance at the report before reading
it in detail. Everything important that you have done, discovered, and concluded should be
mentioned but briefly and concisely. This subsection should contain a 30-second or a one-
minute version of the entire report, touching on the following areas.
Briefly, what is this about?
Why is it important?
Why was it undertaken?
What are the major findings or results?
The executive summary should not exceed one (1) page.
v. Table of Contents
List the important headings and sub-headings in the report with page numbers. Also make a
separate list of tables and figures if you have used any. Every appendix must have a title and
each page must be numbered accordingly.

Other necessary information
This section should not exceed three (3) pages.
x. References
Provided that there are important resources that were used as references while preparing the
report, a complete list of the titles of references concern must be included. Provide all the
references and sources used in IEEE referencing style.

xi. Appendix
Appendices are additional information considered appropriate to support the main text. At the
end of your report, attach all the supportive material you have used for the preparation of
your report. Suggested appendices are:
Investigation/project report during the industrial training
Technical drawings etc.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
1. All figures, tables and similar contents must be captioned and labeled. Every figure or
table must be mentioned in the main text.
2. If the report contains notations and symbols, the full definition must be given when
each notation or symbol first appeared in the main text. The list of notations and
symbols with the full definitions can be placed after ‘Table of Contents’.
3. Every appendix must have a title and be mentioned in the main text where appropriate.
Page numbering for appendices must continue from the main text.
4. The entire report excluding the preliminary pages, references and appendices should
not be less than ten (10) pages but not more than twelve (12) pages.
5. DO NOT include irrelevant materials, e.g., brochures from the organizations, order
forms, organization newsletters and similar materials.
6. Complete all the required parts as mentioned in the format of Internship Report.
Remember, each part is essential, therefore, DO NOT skip any part as every part is
included in the evaluation criteria.
7. All reports should be neatly typed and formatted according to the guidelines. The final
report should be comb bound.
8. Students are required to submit their Internship Reports in hardcopy form to the
Department Office within the due date. Submissions made after the due date shall not
be considered. Copies of logbooks and confidential assessment from supervisors
should be attached separately.
