Introduction
This addendum provides detailed guidance on performing Lab 14: Migrating Virtual
Machines of the VMware vSphere 6.0: Install, Configure, Manage course, using a
NETLAB+ system.
In this lab, you will be using the vclient machine to complete your objectives. You will
be performing the following tasks:
Pod Topology
In this task, you will migrate a virtual machine onto another datastore while it is running
using vSphere Storage vMotion.
If you experience the “vSphere Client web server is initializing” message, please
wait an additional 2-3 minutes and refresh the page to continue.
7. Select the StudentVM-01 in the Object Navigator pane and then click on the
Summary tab.
8. Scroll down on the page and find the Related Objects box. What datastore is
listed next to the Storage entry? ______________________________________
9. Right-click StudentVM-01 in the Object Navigator pane and navigate to Power >
Power on.
While the boot up process begins for StudentVM-01, notice that a warning message may
appear. If you navigate to the Summary tab for StudentVM-01, you will be able to read
the message content.
Click on the Answer Question hyperlink and select I Copied It as the answer.
10. Once the VM has powered on, right-click StudentVM-01 and select Migrate.
11. Record which options are available to you on the Select Migration Type page:

12. Verify that Change storage only is selected and click Next.
13. Select iSCSI-LUN0 for the datastore, then Thin Provision for the Select virtual
disk format and then click Next.
14. On the Ready to Complete page, review the information and click Finish.
15. Notice the Relocate virtual machine task in your Recent Tasks pane. Wait until
this is finished as the task does take a few minutes to complete.
16. On the Summary page of your StudentVM-01 virtual machine, notice that the VM
now resides on the iSCSI-LUN0 datastore.
In this task, you will create a VMkernel port and use it for vMotion migration.
1. Select esxi-1.vmeduc.com from the Object Navigator pane and click the Manage
tab.
3. While viewing the virtual switches, click the Add Host Networking icon.
4. On the Select connection type page, select VMkernel Network Adapter and click
Next.
5. On the Select target device page, select New standard switch and click Next.
6. On the Create a Standard Switch page, click the Add adapters (plus icon).
8. On the Port properties page, type vMotion in the Network Label box, mark the
vMotion traffic check box and click Next.
9. On the IPv4 Settings page, select the Use static IPv4 settings radio button and
enter the following and click Next:
a. IP address: 172.16.20.51
b. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
10. On the Ready to complete page, confirm the settings and click Finish.
11. Repeat steps 1-10 for esxi-2.vmeduc.com but for Step 9, change the IP address
to 172.16.20.52.
In this task, you will verify that your ESXi hosts meet vMotion requirements.
1. In the Object Navigator pane, select your esxi-1.vmeduc.com host and click its
Summary tab.
2. View the Processor Type information to verify that the CPUs are compatible.
3. In the Object Navigator pane, select your esxi-2.vmeduc.com host and click its
Summary tab.
4. View the Processor Type information to verify that the CPUs are compatible.
5. For each of your hosts, verify the following:
a. Click on the Manage tab and click on the Networking button and select
VMkernel adapters. Each host should have a vMotion port group
attached to the vmk1 Device.
c. Click on the Manage tab and then click the Settings button.
In this task, you will verify that the virtual machine’s settings meet the vMotion
requirements.
1. Click on 172.16.1.1 in the inventory pane and then click on the Related Objects
tab followed by the Virtual Machines button.
In this task, you will migrate a virtual machine while it is powered on between two hosts.
1. Click on the Hosts and Clusters tab in the Object Navigator pane.
2. In the Object Navigator pane, verify that you can see all of your virtual machines.
3. Right-click the StudentVM-01 virtual machine and power it on if it is not
powered on already.
4. When the task completes, right-click the StudentVM-01 virtual machine and
select Migrate.
5. On the Select Migration Type page, select Change compute resource only and
click Next.
6. On the Select Destination Resource page, select esxi-2.vmeduc.com and click
Next.
7. On the Select network page, leave the default selected VM Network as the
Destination Network and click Next.
8. On the Select vMotion Priority page, leave the default selected and click Next.
9. On the Ready to Complete page, click Finish. This process may take a few
