The capital letters assigned at each vertex are used to name the sides of the polygon, angles
of the polygon and the polygon itself. The 5 sides namely line AB, BC, CD, AE and DE. It has
five angles, namely angle A, B, C, D, and E. We name the polygon by identifying all its vertices
in consecutive order. The name of the polygon may be any of the following: polygon ABCDE,
polygon BCDEA, polygon CDEAB, polygon DEABC

Polygons are closed plane figure that formed by the line segments that meet only at
their endpoints.
Polygons are classified according to the number of their sides and angles.
Polygons may either be regular or irregular. Regular polygons have all sides
congruent. Irregular polygons have non congruent sides.
IV. EVALUATION Name each polygon by the number of its sides. Tell whether it is regular or not regular.

3. Guided Practice Material : plastic straws
Mechanics :
a. Group the pupils into 4 with 3 members each..
b. Each group will be given set of plastic straws.
c. Using the plastic straws, connect the ends to form a figure
d. Paste it in a bond paper, then show to the class.
e. Call a leader to report for the group.
Ask. What figure is formed? What can you say about its sides?
Is it regular or irregular? Why?
a. Generalization Ask: What are different types of polygons according to the number of sides?
Polygons are closed plane figure that formed by the line segments that meet only at
their endpoints.
Examples of polygons are:
Pentagon – 5 sides Hexagon – 6 sides
Heptagon – 7 sides Octagon – 8 sides
Nonagon – 9 sides Decagon – 10 sides
We can construct polygons using stick, straws, and other straight objects. We can draw
them using grids, and square dots as guides.
b. Application Use the grid paper to draw the following polygons.
a. pentagon
b. octagon
c. nonagon
d. heptagon
e. hexagon
Use recycled barbecue sticks to form the following polygons. Tape them on a short bond
paper.
1. a polygon with 5 sides
2. a polygon with 8 sides
3. a polygon with 12 sides
4. a polygon with 3 sides
5. a polygon with 15 sides
Ask: What do we mean by recycling?
Why is it important to recycle thing?

f. I have 6 sides.
2. Review
Ask: 1. What are polygons? What are their characteristics and elements?
2. What polygons can you identify? How many sides, vertices, and angles does
each have?
3. How can you differentiate regular and irregular polygons?
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation (Introduction) Game: Polygon Memory Match Game
1. Mix up the cards.
2. Lay them in rows, face down.
3. Turn over any two cards.
4. If the two cards match, keep them.
5. If they don't match, turn them back over.
6. Remember what was on each card and where it was.
7. Watch and remember during the other player's turn.
8. The game is over when all the cards have been matched
2. Discussion (Teaching and A. Presentation:
Modelling) 1. Present two pairs of polygons. The first pair is different, while the second pair is
identical.
First pair Second pair
2. Let the pupils point out which pair is congruent or non-congruent. They must pick
the second pair.
3. Ask the pupils to define congruence based on their observation in the second pair
of polygons.
Two polygons are congruent if the corresponding sides and corresponding angles are
congruent.
B. Let the pupils watch this video
What are Congruent Figures?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86iU3fypTd4
d. Ask the pupils: What polygons have you traced and cut? What can you say about
the size, shape and angles?
4. Independent Practice Observe the pair of polygons. On the blank, write CONGRUENT if the two polygons
are congruent and write NOT CONGRUENT if the two polygons are not congruent.

Ask the pupils: Is circle a polygon?
Why? Why not?
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation (Introduction) Which of these are circles?
A B C D E
F G H I J
Take a look at each of the circles. Do you find any line segment?
A circle is a closed plane figure that is not made up of line segments, so it not a
polygon. A circle is named by its center
Have the pupils observed the circle. Introduce the Radius and Diameter of a circle.
Show examples of radius that are connected to the tangent and from a center. Use
