Project Title

FLIP-FLOP

Objectives:

At the end of this activity, 80% of the students were able to:

a. Design and assemble a flip-flop circuit.

b. Properly connect/assemble a flip-flop circuit.
c. Gain knowledge from the project to associate during actual
troubleshooting.

I. Illustration/Diagram:
II. Procedures:

A. Gather the necessary components, tools, and materials in making the

flip-flop.

B. Examine the polarity of each LED (the positive and negative terminals).
You can examine the physical appearance of each LED to determine its
polarity, or you can use a multimeter.

C. Sort the LED according to their color.

D. Arrange all of the LEDs on the PCB according to your desired or

preferred design.

E. Solder the LEDs (with the same polarity) together in parallel. When
using a soldering iron, always observe caution.

F. Check the polarity of each electrolytic capacitor, transistor pinout

(emitter, collector, and base), and resistor value.

G. On the PCB, solder the capacitors, resistors, and transistors. When

soldering all of the components, use the schematic diagram as a guide.

H. On the PCB, solder the battery holder and connect the 9V battery to
test your flip-flop.

III. Bill of Materials:

10 pc LED (Green) P 3.00 P 30.00
10 pc LED (Orange) P 3.00 P 30.00

6 pc 3.3K Resistor P 1.00 P 6.00
2 pc C828A Transistor P 3.00 P 6.00
1 pc Battery Holder n/a n/a
1 pc 9V Battery n/a n/a
2 pc Electrolytic Capacitor 470uF 16V n/a n/a
1 pc 7cm x 9cm Perf Board n/a n/a

TOTAL AMOUNT: P 97.00

IV. Tools and Equipment Needed: ( List down all that you have used)

 Desoldering Pump

V. Output of the Project: ( Picture)

VI. Rubrics for Assessment:

Criteria Percentage Rating

1. Speed and Accuracy 20%
2. Quality 20%
3. Knowledge of Related 20%
Information
4. Use and Care of Tools 20%
5. Attitude towards Work 20%
Total 100%
VII. Question and answer:
1. What have you observed in making the project?
This project appears to be using only two sets of LEDs. I've also
noticed that the two sets of LEDs in the circuit alternate in terms of
how fast their lights blink. These three components - electrolytic
capacitors (which store electric charge), transistors (which act as
switches), and a DC power supply - act as a controlling device in the
circuit. When the capacitor C1 in the circuit is charged, the
corresponding set of LEDs turns on at the same time the capacitor C2
is discharged, the corresponding set of LEDs turns off, and vice versa.
Capacitors charge faster when the applied voltage is higher, so the
higher the voltage supply, the faster the LED lights blink because
capacitors charge faster.

2. Which part of the project you hardly done and why?

The hardest part for me is designing the set of LEDs on the PCB, but
this project is not that difficult to complete because the flip-flop
schematic diagram is already provided, it is not complicated, its
components are readily available, and its price is affordable.

3. Which part of the project you easily done and why?

The soldering of each component on the perf board seems to be the
easiest part.

4. How this project does helps to improve your troubleshooting ideas?

Somehow, knowing how to examine the polarity of each component
using only their physical appearance or using a multimeter to test the
components to see if they are good or defective improves my
troubleshooting ideas. Knowing how to read a schematic diagram is
critical because it will guide you through troubleshooting the
connection and understanding the importance of proper connection
when it comes to polarity and transistor pinout.

5. Give your conclusion about the project.

This project introduces us to the basic concepts of flip-flops, how
they work, and their uses or applications on the electronic
devices available on the market.
