101, Calculus I, Spring 2022 Syllabus

The following information is tentative. It is only to give breif idea on the course and helps
for student to enrole the course.

(1) Calculus I deals with the differentiation and integration of one variable functions. We
assume students have taken and mastered high school level calculus courses.
(2) Lectures and Sections: It is not clear yet if we can have face to face lectures or online
lectures yet. It is not decided yet in the univeristy level.
(3) Evaluation: Grades will be determined by the weighted total of the following. ˆ Final
Exam : 40% ˆ Midterm Exam : 35% ˆ Homework and Quiz : 15% ˆ Attendance and
Attitude : 10% (Details will be announced in the beginning of semester.)
(4) Textbook: Thomas Calculus in SI Units, 14th edition, G.B. Thomas, W.D. Weir, J.
Hass, Christopher Hell, Pearson Education Inc. This is a new edition. The previous one
is 13th edition. Chapter 9 for 1st order ODE in 13th edition moved to Chapter 16 in
14th edition. Except that there are minor changes.
(5) Grading scheme: A-F or SU (It depends on the possibility of having inclass exam.)
(6) We are planning to cover chapters: 2,3,5,7,8,9,10,11.
(7) 25 main lectures: (If there is no holiday, there will be 28 lectures for 75 minutes each.
We usually expect 25 lectures a semester. Chapter numbers are from the 14th edition.
Chapter numbers for the 13th edition are different. Chapter 9 moved to Chaper 16.)
