Differential Test

1. The document provides instructions for performing a differential test using a Siemens 7UT6131 relay. It describes how to calculate the rated currents, matching factors, trip currents, pickup currents, and dropoff currents for the test. 2. It explains that the angle of the current transformers must be in opposite directions of each other and provides a method to reverse the angles if needed. 3. Ramping tests are also covered, noting points about the trigger, pickup vs dropoff, and ensuring test conditions match the ramp test view settings.

DIFFERENTIAL TEST

IMPORTENET POINT FOR DIFFERNETIAL TEST BY USING SIEMENS 7UT6131:

Rated current (HV) = Rating (MV) / 1.73*Voltage
Rated current (LV) = Rating (MV) / 1.73*Voltage

Ex: Ratio of CT 800/1 (800 primary) / (1 secondary)

1- Matching factor (K)= (ratio of CT in primary (HV) / rated current (HV)).

2- Matching factor (K)= (ratio of CT in primary (LV) / rated current (LV)).
3- Matching factor (K secondary) = (ratio of CT in secondary (HV) / Matching factor (K)
(HV)).
4- Matching factor (K secondary) = (ratio of CT in secondary (LV) / Matching factor (K)
(LV)).
5- Idiff differential current = |Ι1 + Ι2|
6- IRest stabilising current = |Ι1| + |Ι2|
7- The different between Ι1 - Ι2 in Idiff will be the range the transformer will not trip
8- Threshold = 0.2 = set current threshold = Is
9-

*1-phase with Ι0-elimination use for Star-Y.

*1-phase without Ι0-elimination use for Delta-D.
* IF delta side has earthing equipment use 1- phase
with Ι0-elimination.
Use this table to calculate the Trip, Pickup and Dropoff:
1. FOR TRIP 3ph= set current threshold / Matching factor (K) (HV or LV).
2. FOR TRIP 1ph= set current threshold / Matching factor (K) (HV or LV) *(1-phase
2q=with Ι0-elimination or 1-phase without Ι0-elimination) depend on factor
group.
3. FOR PICKUP = TRIP * 0.84
4. FOR DROPOFF= TRIP * 0.7

10-For the differential the angle of the CT must be in the opposite direction of the
other CT:

By this way can reverse the angle:

Angle of CT2 = ( 180 – angle of factor group ) + angle of CT1
Example: in YnD1
Angle of CT2 (I1) = ( 180 – 30) + (0) = 150O
Angle of CT2 (I2) = ( 180 – 30) + (-120) = 30O
Angle of CT2 (I3) = ( 180 – 30) + (120) = 270O
11-FOR RAMPING TEST:
When you take the test, remember these points.
1- Signal1, which phase you test.
2- Trigger of pickup not like drop-off
Pickup Drop-off

3- The condition of Ramp Assessment should be same Ramp Test View.

4- The Nom. = the calculation of pickup and drop-off.

12-Harmonics Restraint:

*For the 2nd harmonic frequency = 100Hz

*For calculate the current trip of 2nd harmonic = secondary full load current * %of 2nd harmonic
Ex:
Trip of 2nd harmonic = 0.852mA * 0.15 = 0.1251mA ( at this current will trip )
13- How the relay differentiates between inrush current and real
fault?
By using 2nd harmonic, if the harmonic more than 15% relay will know
that is inrush current. If the 2nd harmonic is less than 15% relay will
know that is real fault.
14- What is mean by cross block?
In condition which will not use cross block, the relay will need 3ph to
since the 2nd harmonic and to block the differential function for not trip
the transformer in inrush current.
By using cross block, we need only 1ph to block differential function
to not trip the transformer in inrush current.

15- Why we need low and high set-in differential of transformer?

Low set use for condition where you don’t want the transformer to trip
like inrush current and 2nd harmonic.
High set use for real fault.
