Industrial Management System: Submitted To: Dr. Amjad Shah

This document discusses the importance of industrial management for mechanical engineers. It notes that managing modern engineering teams requires both technical expertise and leadership/management skills. It then defines four key functions of management that are common across industries: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Next, it describes mechanical engineering managers as leading teams and projects involving the design and improvement of mechanical systems. Finally, it emphasizes the importance of industrial engineering in ensuring processes run smoothly and efficiently to deliver results at low cost across society's varied production and infrastructure needs.

Need of Industrial Management System for Mechanical Engineer

Managing modern teams of engineers requires technical knowledge, leadership and

management skills. Learn about blending leadership skills with technical expertise in this
field.

What are the function of industrial management?

There are four functions of management that span across all
industries. They include: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.

What is management in mechanical engineering?

Mechanical engineering managers lead teams, projects, and
innovations in the design and improvement of mechanical systems, typically in specialized
areas like automotive, robotics, and electronics

What is the importance of industrial management in engineering?

Industrial engineering eliminates the waste of time, money, energy,
materials, and many other commodities. Take, for instance, an IE working in a factory. They
may work to streamline an assembly line while making it safer at the same time.

Mechanical engineering managers in industry lead teams, projects, and innovations in the

design and improvement of mechanical systems, typically in specialized areas like

automotive, robotics, and electronics.

Soft Skills and Emotional Intelligence are Core to Effective Leadership: Being an effective
engineering manager requires not just the technical skills they learned as undergraduates, but
a new toolkit of soft, human leadership skills that don’t always come naturally to more
systematic, logical thinkers. These include: motivating and inspiring employees (“EQ”
or emotional intelligence), persuasion, servant leadership, communication, project
management, and more. Most MSEs (Master’s or M.S. Degrees in Engineering) typically
won’t focus on these important human leadership areas; instead, they'll push engineers deeper
into their chosen area of specialization.

What is the importance of industrial engineering?

Sometimes our society needs a bridge, a dam, a ship, a highway, a

building. Designing and building such an item is the work of engineering. But at all times our
society depends on an interlinked set of processes that produce our mechanical products,
arrange for materials to be present when needed, develop the skills to manage these
processes, operate the systems of laws and education and entertainment that make life livable,
manage the processes of government as we think they should operate. Industrial engineering
is the discipline that ensures that all these processes operate smoothly, to produce the
appropriate results, at as low a cost as can be managed.
