Introduction

Testing and Evaluation

The Playhouse 6 Test Masters book provides
various ways to evaluate students’ progress, by
providing assessment tests and formal tests.

Classroom Evaluation
You can evaluate a student’s progress in the
classroom in many ways.

1) Monitoring
Monitoring a student’s speech and writing are
keys to evaluating his/her academic progress.
It is essential to walk around the classroom and
monitor each student’s speaking and writing
abilities as they do their classwork.

2) Group Work
Put the students in groups and see how they
interact with one another. Group work is a good
way to ensure that the students interact and
practise their speaking and language skills.

3) Workbook and Review Units

The workbook and the review units in the
Student’s Book help you evaluate what the
student has understood so far.

4) Listening Activities
Listening exercises in the Student’s Book provide
fun ways for the students to learn the language.
The passages provided help build students’
language skills by enacting the vocabulary and
grammar of the units in a realistic context.

5) The Evaluation Sheet

The teacher’s evaluation sheet (attached to this
book) helps you to keep track of each student’s
individual progress and style towards learning.
This evaluation sheet can be completed each
semester. It can be a helpful tool to show the
parents their children’s progress and the areas
where they need more improvement.
Test Masters Instructions

The Playhouse 6 Test Masters consists of 23 tests:

15 unit tests, 5 summative tests, 2 semester tests
and 1 grade six ‘end of year’ test.
A unit test should be taken at the end of each unit.
These tests will measure the students’ progress
with regard to each unit’s objectives. After every
three units, there is a summative test which tests
the students’ retention of the information and skills
taught in the preceding three units.
After the completion of Units 1-7, there is a
semester test which can be used to measure
students’ progress. There is also a semester test
which covers the material taken in Units 8-15.
The ‘end of year’ test assesses the students’
progress with regard to the grade six outcomes. The
material in this test covers Units 1-15.

put numbers on a thermometer, which was a big step. In 1742, Anders Celsius, a famous
inventor, astronomer and physicist, invented the Celsius temperature scale. He developed
this scale setting 0° as the freezing point of water and 100° as the boiling point of water.
Anders Celsius used a ‘Centigrade’ scale, which means to divide into 100 degrees. It was in
