IS THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE PHILIPPINES EFFECTIVE TO PROMOTE GLOBALLY

COMPETITIVE INDIVIDUALS?

Joseph Addison famously said, "Education is a companion which affliction cannot depress, crime cannot
destroy, hostility cannot alienate, and despotism cannot enslave." It would be regarded as something that can
never be taken from you in Filipino proverbs.

The K12 educational system is widely used in the United States, Australia, and Canada; and this has been
adapted in our country during the Aquino government and this remains as the current educational system in
the Philippines. Since the beginning of the program, the common question is --would it actually be useful or
harmful to a Filipino student as it means extending their education by two years?

We are all aware of how difficult life is and how expensive public or private education is for parents. The K12
system, however, proves to be very advantageous when taking into account factors other than the cost of a
student's education. Filipinos' inability to complete their education is the root cause of both the social ills of
unemployment and poverty. The K12 program seeks to improve Philippine education standards so that
graduates can find jobs with ease. The program also aims to satisfy the requirements for professionals looking
to work abroad. Additionally, it would aid in the student's development of fundamental skills and emotional
maturity.

As stated by G.K. Chesterton once said that "education is simply the soul of a society as it goes from one
generation to the next." Wouldn't the Philippines have a better future if all schools raised the bar for
instruction? Wouldn't it produce a better Filipino generation? Wouldn't it improve the Philippines' ability to
compete internationally? The lives of young Filipinos could be improved if they adopted the educational
systems of first-world nations like the United States. After all, they already serve as living examples of how
their educational system helped them become a dominant nation in the globe.

I believe that the K12 system will assist Filipino students in achieving a higher level of academic achievement,
a better career to support themselves, and a brighter future. Everyone has access to excellent opportunities
through K12; for example, students can apply for TESDA Certificates of Competency (COCs) and National
Certificates (NCs), which will improve their employment prospects; partnerships with various businesses will be
made available for technical and vocational courses; students can now gain work experience while enrolled in
school; and businesses may even hire them after they graduate; and entrepreneurship courses will now be
offered. In actuality, these tech Voc. The demand for courses is high abroad, and they might be a far better
source of income and family support than those professionals.

The current educational system in our country not alone promotes global employment but raises the level of
internalization which allows students to get the chance to broaden their global consciousness, world views and
embrace cultural diversity.
IS THE GOVERNMENT DOING ENOUGH TO TACKLE GLOBAL WARMING?

In all of human history, global warming has posed the greatest threat to life on Earth. The earth is rising faster
than many species can adapt, which is changing or removing habitat, decreasing food sources, creating
drought and other severe weather events that are harmful to species, and even directly eradicating species
that can't withstand the heat.

As the Philippine government work to fight poverty and advance shared prosperity, climate change poses a
serious danger to global development. Droughts, floods, more powerful and unpredictable storms, and sea
level rise are wreaking havoc on communities all over the world. We also know that the poor are always the
most at risk and the ones who suffer the most when a calamity strikes. By 2030, a further 100 million people
might fall into poverty as a result of climate change if urgent action is not taken.

The Philippines comes in at or near the top when it comes to vulnerability to natural disasters and climate
change. It is predicted that long-term losses from earthquakes, tropical cyclones, and floods will devastatingly
impact food sources and increased threat to health and well-being.

To realize the vision of strengthening our country’s response to global warming, the government is exerting
significant effort in a pro-active and responsive manner. It is laudable that it has implemented a comprehensive
set of laws, institutions, and programs to combat climate change and increase resiliency to natural
catastrophes, which supports international efforts.

The Philippine government is doing the necessary steps in tackling Global Warming, it is significant that the
Climate Change Act, which established the Climate Change Commission to guide the creation of policies and
coordinate government activities on climate change, was passed as early as 2009. The Philippine Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management Act (DRRM Act) of 2010 is also crucial because it significantly influenced the
country's decision to shift its emphasis from disaster response to more proactive disaster risk reduction and
preparedness, as well as to improve the alignment between adaptation and disaster risk reduction actions.

I do believe that our country could do more to bring awareness to the people and implement guidelines to
industries and activities that immensely contribute Global warming. The government can strictly impose
sanctions and issue environmental friendly permits for some industries to operate. Let us not forget that
urbanization doesn’t need to destroy the environment. With the proper guidelines and stringent laws, we can
lessen the aggravation of these destructive threat.

Current circumstances make the Philippines' future uncertain. The environment, industry, and people's lives
and livelihoods are all under threat in the country, which presents serious difficulties. Through the reduction of
emissions and the promotion of renewable energy sources, both the Philippine government and governments
abroad will need to coordinate their efforts to tackle the climate issue.

We can only do our best if we educate ourselves on the best ways to handle these difficulties. While it may feel
at times as though there is nothing that we as individuals can do, if we arm ourselves with knowledge about the
science behind climate change and its consequences on both people and the environment, we can begin to
make changes that are good and encourage others to do the same.

IS THE GOVERNMENT DOING ENOUGH FOR ITS PEOPLE?

Recent challenges in our country had put a lot of spotlight on the governments’ responsiveness to its people-
COVID, inflation, and high unemployment rate had led to aggravate the most common and constant problem in
our country ----POVERTY, directly making the poorest of the poor even poorer. This leads us to one question,
is the Philippine government doing enough for its people?

Poverty is the deadliest disease in our country because it impacts people who struggle to make ends meet on
a daily basis, as well as others who have aspirations and desires but can never envision achieving them,
poverty is a major problem, particularly in the Philippines. In the Philippines, more than 30% of the population
lives in poverty, with 12% of them experiencing extreme poverty. Imagine living next to a rubbish dump, waking
up each morning knowing that all you can do with your life is try to live, and only being able to eat one modest
meal each day rather than breakfast and lunch.

In the height of the pandemic, minimum wage earners were crushed, lockdowns made it even harder for poor
people to earn. The lack of access to good health services had caused tragedy to thousands of poor Filipino
families. The government issued cash assistances nationwide, conducted relief operations and launched
vaccine operations and somehow it helped lessen the problem for a while. But the pandemic and other
inevitable events pushed our country to its limits leading to extreme multiple problems which requires the
government to do more for its people.

Currently our country is facing the highest level of inflation since time immemorial and it is here to stay if the
government will fail to address this the right way. As producers pass on greater costs to consumers, there are
still inflation risks, poor families are forced to re-evaluate their spending plans due to the growing cost of living,
this urge them to lessen their consumption, but if they already consume less and can barely eat a day even
before the prices were high, how much more now?

The government often says that these things are beyond their control, it is irresponsible to claim that, in the
face of rising costs and wage erosion, government has no influence. The government has a responsibility to
solve the people's escalating economic problem. What is Marcos capable of? The upcoming legislation that
seeks to lower the tax burden on necessities can be certified by him as urgent. Marcos has the authority to
certify as urgent any legislation that will increase pay and benefits.

The government was formed in social contract, people elected representatives and leaders to bring light and
envision actions for the common good and I believe it’s right and just for people to demand direct actions and
plans for their welfare, the government is still so far from doing enough and for them to act urgently is the most
necessary thing to combat the challenges all Filipinos are commonly going through today.
ADVOCACY: THE GREEN LEGACY

The green legacy is a non-governmental organization that seeks to encourage public engagement in the

building of a sustainable society through projects and programs on environmental education, ecological

governance, and development work. It envisions to create a society that is environmentally conscious, has a

thriving economy, and a healthy environment.

The goal of this advocacy is to create projects, programs, and initiatives to preserve a clean, healthy, and

sustainable environment and to improve environmental health, to advocate for the acceptance of

environmental management and to support environmental programs, practices, and policies across the

country, to develop environmental protection and conservation policies, laws, and regulations with the help of

the government and other interested parties, including sustainable and inclusive economic growth, to conduct

environmental impact studies and other research and development initiatives, and/or assist them, to contribute

to raising environmental awareness and environmental issues, to execute as a strategy for creating a

sustainable society, promote the circular economy and sustainable development goals through sustainable

production and consumption, to encourage and assist the development of sustainable and environmentally

sound management practices and lastly to conduct informative seminars aimed at protecting the environment

and conserving its resources.

The reason why I chose this advocacy is the fact that we cannot survive without the environment, which is one

of the most crucial components of our lives. The most noticeable difference from now can be seen if we

compare it to before and after. We kept destroying plastics everywhere, cut down trees, and polluted the air. In

addition to that, there are some of us who genuinely care about the environment. It is useless if one person

genuinely cares about something while another is careless about it. It should be recognized for what it is before

it is too late. We only realize the true value of things when it’s gone, so before it’s too late let’s do our part in

solving this issue which we are directly responsible for.

As I wrap up, I'd like to encourage you to continue keeping our environment clean, green, and appealing. We

all know that there are several methods that may be taken to keep the environment clean and superior to

before. Appreciate it because it really contributes to your ability to stay alive and healthy. Let us therefore serve

as an example for others. Set a good example for others to follow, and let's clean up the environment together,
hand in hand let us create an encompassing legacy that will benefit the future generation and create a

sustainable world.

ADVOCAY: PROJECT PROTECT

The PROJECT PROTECT ADVOCACY is a non-government organization which aims at acting as a voice for

victims of sexual abuse against women. In many nations, sexual harassment is a forbidden form of violence

against women and a violation of women's human rights. Many women experience severe physical and

psychological harm as a result of sexual harassment at work all around the world. Harassment of women at

work by their managers, co-workers, or other individuals hinders their integration into the job, reinforces the

idea that women are beneath males in society, violates their dignity, and poses a risk to their health and safety.

The goals of this advocacy is; Using a primary prevention strategy, educate the general public about sexual

assault, intimate partner violence, sexual harassment, and stalking in order to increase awareness and

encourage a peaceful community. Strengthen and deliver services for survivors and their friends and family

through partnerships and teamwork. Support the rights of sexual assault survivors by coordinating and

fostering efficient administrative, legal, and medical responses. Ensure the inclusion of a wide diverse group of

individuals and be culturally accessible to all groups regardless of age, religion, and region. Collaborate with

schools and community agencies to design, communicate, and execute ways to prevent and eradicate sexual

assault, intimate partner violence, sexual harassment, and stalking and all forms of oppression.

This goals will be realized through Women's Human Rights Trainings and seminars and the unwavering

promotion of new legislation to address violence against women and girls. Fundraising will also be done for

victims of sexual abuse which will let them start a new life while healing the traumas of their painful

experiences, this will provide them jobs, livelihoods and vast opportunities to start a new.

Not only do I assist survivors directly through my activism. Additionally, PROJECT PROTECT is committed to

helping programs create and execute essential services for survivors. All advocacy services must be trauma-

informed and individually designed to better meet the requirements of each survivor/victim.

I have chosen this advocacy because I believe that there is no place in this world for abusers and this

advocacy is the right platform to change and affect lives. Acts of sexual violence are traumatic and may impact

many different aspects of a victim/survivor’s life. Survivors have the right to know what their rights and options
are so that they can decide what choices are best for them. Sexual assault advocates can provide emotional

support, information, advocacy and referrals to victims/survivors no matter how long it has been since an act of

sexual violence has occurred. Advocacy may involve taking a hotline call, meeting someone at a hospital for a

forensic exam, explaining the legal process or assisting a survivor with basic needs like safe housing or

maintaining employment. Advocates empower survivors to make informed decisions and assure them that their

voices are heard.
