DLP Science 2

This lesson plan aims to teach students about gravity. It includes objectives, materials, and a detailed procedure. The procedure involves demonstrations where students observe how various objects like balls and coins fall due to gravity. They then analyze and discuss why the objects fell. Students learn that gravity is a force that pulls all objects on Earth downward. An activity is done with magnets, paperclips, and rulers to show how the magnetic force can overcome gravity. Students are then quizzed and assigned to write about which falls faster: a paper or stone dropped from the same height.

A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 2

By: Cajes, Trisha Niña D.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. explain the importance of gravity;
b. recognize the gravity; and
c. observe what gravity does on all objects.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Force of Gravity
Reference: Science 2 Health, Technology, and Environment
Author: Eden Peñaflor Battad, Lilia Rosagaran Villanueva
Editors: Teresita Tomines-Battad and Felipe Osquiza Saclamentao
(pages 251-524)
Materials: small ball, piece of paper, coin, paper clip, magnets, scissors, sticks,
string, tape, metal ruler, water bottle and visual aids
Strategy: 4A’s strategy

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

I. Setting of Standards
Before we start the class
 Please arrange your chairs and your
tables
 Put your hands on the table
 Speak English
 Do not talk when the teacher is
talking
 Raise your right hand if you want to
answer or when you have questions
 Participate in class
 Follow directions carefully
 And lastly, be honest.

II. Activity
Class, observe what happens to the ball
and this piece of paper if I throw this
upward.
Observe also if I toss this coin.
It stays on the ground, teacher!
III. Analysis
Where did the ball stay when I threw it
up?
It goes up and down, Teacher!
What happened to the coin and the
piece of paper when I threw it up? Because of the gravity, Teacher!

Why did the ball, coin, and the piece of

paper fall? I learned that all objects are pulled down,
teacher.
What did you learn from the activity?

IV. Abstraction
When you throw a ball, It goes up and
then goes down. When you toss a coin
upward it goes up and then it also goes
down. When you jump, you go up first and
then you go down. Anything that goes up or
is push upwards goes down.
Leaves, flowers, and fruits fall too.
Rocks from hills and mountains move
downward on lowlands. Why?
All objects are pulled down towards the
center of the Earth.

The force that pulls you and other

objects down is called gravity. Gravity is a
force of the earth. It can make objects
move downward.
Wherever we are on Earth, we are
pulled by gravity. When we walk on the
ground we do not float on air. The earth’s
gravity is greater than any object on earth
which pulls everything downward. Gravity
pushes you down fast. This is the reason
why it is easier to go down from the stairs
than to go up.
When you push a heavy bag down from
the table you will find it easier to do. Why?
It is because gravity helps you by pulling
down the heavy bag when it is pushed off.
Without gravity, life on earth would be
impossible.

V. Application
I will group you into 4 groups. The first
row will be facing to the back and same
as the third row.
Class, we are going to perform the
experiment called gravity experiment
with magnets.
Directions: The paper clips always pointed at the
1. Start by tying some paperclips to ground, Teacher!
pieces of string. Then tie the string
onto a small stick.
2. Lift up the stick so the paperclips
hang from the string. Class observed
what happens if the stick will be
tilted in both ways. Which direction
do the paperclips point?

Next, we explore how gravity can be

easily overcome by other forces.
3. Place three magnets along a metal
ruler.
4. Suspend the ruler using the two
water bottle. Be sure the magnets
are facing down.
5. Take the paper clips and string off The paper clips are now pointing upward,
your sticks. Teacher!
6. Take one paperclip and hold it until
it’s just suspended below the first The paperclips were not going up into the
magnet. Tape the string in place air after we removed the magnets,
onto the table. Do this with the Teacher!
other two paperclips.
What have you observed class?

7. Now remove the ruler. What have

you observed with the paperclips
class?
8. Put the ruler with magnets back
above the paperclips. Slowly lift
each paperclip toward each magnet
until they are all suspended.

This shows how the magnetic force The magnets corresponds to gravity,
between the paperclip and magnet teacher!
were stronger than the pull of the
Earth’s gravity on the paperclip, so the
paperclip was able to remain in the air
rather than fall back to the ground.

Class, what does the magnets

corresponds to?

IV. Evaluation
To determine if you really learned the lesson, I will give you a quiz.
Direction: put T in the blank before the numbers if the statement is true, and put F if the
statement is false.

___1. Gravity is a force.

___2. Gravity is a force that pulls down on everything on Earth.
___3. Earth is huge and its gravity pull on all objects.
___4. Only some objects are affected by the force of gravity.
___5. Wherever we are on Earth, we are not pulled by gravity.

V. Assignment
Directions: In a whole piece of paper, write your observations to the question below.
When a paper and a stone are dropped from the same height and at the same time,
which of the two will fall first? Why?

Criteria:
Accuracy 50%
Cleanliness 25%
Originality 25%
Total 100%
