Chapter 1 Solution Combinations
1.1 ANPR Camera + Hybrid SAN + HikCentral
In this solution, we can use the ANPR camera to capture & upload the license plate
results & pictures, and use the VMS to display and retrieval license plate pictures &
videos.

2.1 Camera Installation Angle
Hikvision Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras help users detect passing vehicles
and capture the license plates. To obtain the maximum license plate recognition accuracy,
you need to install the ANPR camera in a proper way to get a clear image.
4 / 27
5 / 27
2.2 Camera Installation Height
The installation height (H) needs to be fixed firstly, and then the detection range (L) could
be calculated by a simple equation L = tan 30*H.
Note:
For normal entrance application, it‘s better to install the camera between height 1.5m
and 2m.
6 / 27
2.4 License plate tilt angle
The license plate should be as horizontal as possible and the recommended tilt angle is
within +/-5 degrees.
Also, the vehicles in the detection area should go as straight as possible instead of
turning left or right. If no, then you need to adjust the angle of the ANPR camera to
ensure the proper angle.
Chapter 3 Configurations
You can set the ANRP function via camera or NVR from web configuration interface. If
you are using NVR&ANPR camera solution, then please configure the detection area in
NVR web firstly.
3.1 Set ANRP Function via Camera Web Configuration Interface
Steps:
7 / 27
2. Go to Image Display Settings to change Exposure Time from 1/300 to 1/1000. The
higher speed of the car, the smaller value of exposure time should be configured.
Here you can adjust gain according the night image performance. In default is 20.
3. Set the Day/Night Switch to Auto, for environment with no enough illumination,
we suggest to set scheduled switch. If night time the car head light causes plate
reflection, then change smart supplement light mode to manual and reduce the
beam light distance.
(If plate has reflection, then reduce the low & high beam distance value, If plate is
too dark, then please increase the value. You can configure each initial value with
20 then adjust base on site light condition and picture records during night time.)
8 / 27
Please reduce IR level if night plate shows like below:
9 / 27
5. Go to Road Traffic and draw the corresponding settings as car lane, you can
tick/untick ‘Remove Duplicated License Plates’ to filter/allow same successive car
pass the camera within 3 minutes based on requirement; you can also change the
Detection Mode to filter non-vehicle object captureing.

New camera setting page
Note:
• Blue Detection Line: Mainly used for Entrance/Exit with a purpose of improving
the capture efficiency. The line is generated automatically, please keep it in the
detection area and close to the vehicle license plate.
• Yellow Boundary Line: Area within the left and right line will recognize the plate.
11 / 27
6. Go to Arming Schedule and Linkage Method, here you can set the arming
schedule and linkage action independently for white list, black list and other list;
These lists are for camera itself management, we can realize the central
management in HikCentral. Make sure notify surveillance center is ticked
otherwise platform will not receive the plate result.
12 / 27
7. Select a direction here. The Forward means vehicle moves toward the camera;
Reverse means vehicle moves away from the camera. Only the vehicles moving as
the selected direction can trigger selected linkage methods; Here we just select
all, remember to enable Notify Surveillance Center
8. If you are using loop detector to trigger the ANPR camera for capturing and recognition
to filter non-vehicle object miscapturing, please do as follow.
I. Change Select Mode to Alarm Input
13 / 27
II. Go to Event>Basic Event>Alarm Input, make sure alarm input are armed, change the
alarm type to NO or NC based on the detector trigger device type.
III. To locate where the loop should be buried, please test with a vehicle first, following
chapter 2 to measure the number/letter/character height and make sure its above 25
pixels, otherwise the performance will not be guaranteed.
14 / 27
9. Check the real time recognition results in web.
15 / 27
3.2 Configuration in HikCentral
Steps:
1. Register the ANPR camera in HikCentral web and check results in control client
(For HikCentral V1.4 and above version, V1.3 no need to register). For details,
please refer to HikCentral Manual.
2. You can choose either server or Hybrid SAN as ANPR picture recording.
16 / 27
Storage quota can be adjust based on camera channels and vehicle passing records
number, you can also restrict the quota size as per your design.
17 / 27
For configure Hybrid SAN as picture storage location, you can refer below link:
https://mega.nz/file/4dsUiSgK#UtjuIrNp9XEhTZLOk6QmUggoJHJGf2WObJQxBTIb8p8
Note:
Usually 1 ANPR picture size is 1MB, if one day 1000 cars pass the camera, then total size will
be around 1GB.
4. Fill in server info, site location, camera ID, and GIS information which shared from
MOI;
18 / 27
19 / 27
5. (optional)Create ANPR list and set event/alarm in HikCentral.
20 / 27

3.4 Set ANRP Function via NVR Local Configuration Interface with GUI 4.0
Preparations:
Please refer to chapter 3.1;
22 / 27
Steps:
1. Go to System->Event->Smart Event-> select the camera channel->Vehicle to
enable ANPR function. Remember to check Save VCA Picture;
2. For detailed steps, please refer to chapter 3.1 & chapter 3.3.
23 / 27
Chapter 4 Performance
4.1 View and search ANRP pictures & videos via HikCentral client
Steps:
1. You can login to client Monitoring-> to check the real time results and alarm;
24 / 27
Note:
Make sure device & HikCentral client time are same as HikCentral server, otherwise
recording playback may have some issue. You can refer below NTP configuration document to
configure HikCentral server as NTP source.
