What I Need to Know
At the end of the lesson the learners are expected to apply primary
chords (I, IV, V) as accompaniment to simple songs.
What’s New
Chords in music are the three or more notes/tones sounded together.
Triad is a chord with only three pitches. It is composed of a root, its third, and its
fifth. Look at the figure below. (See appendices page 8 for your answer.)

Primary chords – are one of the triad. These are the 3 commonly used chords in

1. Tonic chord (I) – the root note of the chord. In the key of C, do (C) is the tonic
that has the Roman Numeral I.
2. Sub-dominant (IV) – the fourth note from the tonic and has the Roman Numeral
IV, in the key of C, fa (F) is the sub-dominant.
3. Dominant (V) – the fifth note from the tonic and has the Roman Numeral V, in the
key of C, sol (G) is the dominant chord.

Applying primary chords in a song using the scale of C Major, F Major, and G
Major, just press the given letter names in the keyboard as your guide. This time,
