Ghana: Instructions

This document provides instructions and questions for a statistical methods assessment covering topics such as population and measurement models, sources of statistical variation, randomization models, moment substitution and ordinary least squares methods, properties of order statistics from uniform and exponential distributions, moment and maximum likelihood estimation, and properties of estimators. Students are asked to distinguish models, identify situations leading to variation, state advantages of randomization, discuss estimation methods, derive distributions of statistics, find estimators and their properties including bias, mean squared error, and probability bounds.

Instructions: Answer all Questions

1. With reference to Statistical Methods,

(a) distinguish between Population Models and Measurement Models.

(b) state any three (3) situations that leads to statistical variation.

2. Give any two advantages of randomisation models.

3. Briefly discuss the

(a) Moment Substitution Method,

(b) Ordinary Least Squares,

with reference to th~ conditions under which the method is applicable and the principle underlying
the use of the methods.

4. Let Xl> X 2 , •.. , Xn be random sample of size n from a given population. If the sampled population is
(a) uniformly distributed over the interval [0, e], write a function of the maximum order statistic
that is distributed as the chi-square and identify the .¢egrees of freedom.
