This lesson plan aims to teach students about propaganda techniques. The teacher will review biases from the previous lesson. Students will then play a game to identify TV commercial slogans. The teacher will explain that commercials use propaganda to persuade consumers. Students will learn the definition of propaganda and its goal of promoting views. Three propaganda techniques will be introduced - the first being the bandwagon technique, where people are urged to do something because others are doing it. The lesson objectives are for students to identify propaganda techniques, recognize them in ads, and analyze word intentions.

of the new lesson
(The teacher will post the meaning of propaganda on the
board.)
Propaganda

• Refers to a type of message aimed at influencing

opinions and/or the behavior of people.

“Propaganda is media that uses carefully-crafted messages to

manipulate people’s actions and beliefs. It has one purpose,
and one purpose only: to persuade you.”

• It shows bias by nature because advertisers only

present information favorable to their products or
services.

“They use bias, or one-sided messages and are designed to

appeal to people’s emotions instead of their judgment and
reasoning.”
“What do you think is the goal of propaganda?” “To persuade or convince the
audience.”
“Very Good! Propaganda aims to promote something to
persuade or convince the public or audience to support what
they are saying.”
“There are different methods or styles used in advertising to
promote products or services. We call these Propaganda
Techniques. Today, we are going to discuss the first 3
techniques of propaganda.”
(The teacher will post the meaning of the 1st technique.)
(The teacher will call one student to read the definition of a
bandwagon.)
Bandwagon

• A propaganda technique that urges people to believe

everyone is buying it; therefore, you should do the
same.

“Based on what you have read, what did you understand about (The student will answer.)
bandwagon?”
“Basically, the bandwagon is a technique that persuades you to
do a certain thing or buy a certain product because many other
people are doing it.”
For example:

“This advertisement tells us that we should patronize this

product because everyone else is doing so or everyone already
has this kind of shoes or product.”

Another example:
People might buy the iPhone 14 Pro Max because of its
popularity, regardless of whether they need it, can afford it, or
even really want it.
“Can you think of other examples of the Propaganda (The student/s will give another
Technique, Bandwagon?” example.)

“Very good!”
“Let’s proceed the to the next technique.”
(The teacher will post the meaning of the 2nd technique.)
(The teacher will call one student to read the definition of card
stacking.)
Card Stacking

• A propaganda technique that shows the product’s

best features, telling half-truths, and omitting or lying
about its potential problems.
(The student will answer.)
“Based on what you have read what did you understand about
card stacking?”
“Very Good! “Basically, Card-Stacking means stacking the
cards in favor of the product; advertisers stress positive
qualities and ignore negative ones.”
For example:

“This advertisement tells us that the fries in Burger King has

40% less fat, 30% less calories and it’s big on taste. It only
presents the positive qualities of their product and ignores the
negative qualities of their product.”
Another example:

“The word ‘50% stronger’ is all that caught your eye and will
likely influence your buying decision.”
(The student/s will give another

person as an endorser is for the viewers to like the product
because their favorite celebrity endorses it.”

to promote/endorse their product.”
