The author witnessed arguments at a public hospital lab in Ambon due to delayed test results. The lab staff said results were delayed because the lab was understaffed compared to the number of samples. This shows Ambon's healthcare services lag behind other provinces due to deficiencies in medical lab education and staff. The author wants to study Medical Laboratory Technology to help address Ambon's staffing shortages and improve healthcare by processing samples more efficiently and accurately. ESSAY

Hi, this is my essay. While accompanying my aunt to visit a doctor in one a public
hospital in Ambon, I noticed several people were arguing with the lab staff there. They were
angry because their family member needed a lab test result so the doctor could decide which
suitable method were needed for treatment Yet, the result was not ready, although it was
already processed for several days. They accused the lab staff of being incompetent and lazy,
that caused result process was prolonged. Hence, the lab staff says otherwise. They say it was
not ready because the number of people working there is not enough compared to the number
of samples needed to be processed. It shows Ambon, is still left behind in terms of healthcare
services compared to other provinces. Numerous cases like this happened a lot. I believe it
when the staff said that there are massive amount of samples that needed to be processed but
there a deficiency in staff number. This is due to the low number of people that can process the
samples properly. Because people with a medical lab education background are deficient in
Ambon, the number of qualified staff at the hospital are small as well.
Therefore, I want to take a higher education so I can be valuable not only for me but
for Ambon in general. As Jeremiah 29:7 to seek the peace and prosperity of the city where God
carried me into because if it prospers, I too will prosper, I decided to continue my study in
Medical Laboratory of Technology, specifically at Pelita Harapan University or UPH. UPH is
one of Indonesia's most reputable private universities In Indonesia. By studying at UPH and
taking the degree in Medical Laboratory of Technology, I intended to focuses more on lab
techniques to understand the lab processes samples properly by using cutting-edge
technologies that can shorten the amount of time needed and improve the accuracy of the result
given. I am also interested in several courses provided by the program, such as Immunology,
Virology, and Bacteriology, which can help me deepen my understanding of microorganisms
that cause illness, because many samples nowadays need testing that involves microorganism
identification. With a deep knowledge of infectious microorganisms, I can shorten the sample
processing time in terms of identification.
Medical Laboratory of Technology graduates have a broad career path, from being lab
technicians in a government agency to working in hospital labs. After I graduate, I want to
work in hospitals in Indonesia, especially in Ambon. I want to improve not only the quantity
of lab technicians but also the quality of the lab technician where I will work. With that, I can
also help the community around me by improving the healthcare system, especially in terms of
medical laboratory testing. With that, I can also indirectly help prolong someone's life by giving
the best lab result that can help doctors decide which treatment method is very suitable for each
respective patients.
