Lesson Plan in Mathematics (K)

I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:

a. Recognize the term “put together” and the meaning of symbols + and =.
b. Add quantities up to using concrete objects.
c. Solve simple addition story problem.

A. Motivation (Showing sets of real objects)
There are two sets of objects to put together. The children count.
I have 3 blue crayons and 2 green crayons. How many crayons do I
have? Kindly count the elements in each of the two sets?

‘Let’s put together the two sets. Let’s count the combined elements
of 2 sets. The children count.

What is the answer?


Very good! “5”

Development of the Lesson


B. Presentation
These are the other examples of addition using sets.

We have 3 stars and 4 stars here.


How many stars are there if put them together? The children will count.
Everybody count. “7 teacher.”

There are 7 stars in all.


Everybody say 7.
Very good!
The children will count.

There are 2 hearts and 1 heart, if we put them together, how many “There are 3 hearts
hearts are there? teacher.”
How many hearts are there?

Very good!

This is plus sign (+). When you see this cross. You would see plus.
This is equals. This is the symbols for equals (=) after that, you will
answer in addition, which is called the sum.

Again let’s name the different symbols in addition. Plus, equals and
sum.

We will use different pictures and objects for us to be able to add


numbers or objects quickly.

C. Discussion
Before we began let us talk about the meaning of addition. Children are listening.
Addition means it is “putting objects and numbers together.” All the
different numbers and objects you need to put them together and
you will total of that number, that’s what you call addition.
Everybody say “addition” “Addition”
“Putting numbers together.” “putting numbers
together”
These are the different symbols that we will use in addition.

This is plus sign (+). When you see this cross. You would see plus.
Everybody say “plus.”
This is equals. This is the symbols for equals (=) after that, you will “plus”
the answer in addition, which is called the sum.

Again let’s name the different symbols in addition. Plus, equals and
sum.

We will use different pictures and objects for us to be able to add


numbers quickly.

“Yes”

The children will count.

How many stars are there? 7 stars teacher.


You say 3 stars + and another 4 stars.
Now, how many stars are there together?
All you have to do is count the numbers together. Let’s say 1, 2, 3,
“Addends teacher.”
4, 5, 6, and 7, the same as counting on. Now let’s say equals
7.3+4=7. “Sum teacher.”
No matter how many numbers that you put together we call those
addends. This answer is called sum.
Everybody say “Addends.”
“Sum”
Let’s have more examples.

“Add teacher.”

We have 2 hearts + 1 heart equals. What are we going to do?


Very Good!
Let us count them together. “horizontal”
One, two, three. Meaning, 2+1=3.
Very good.
You call this horizontal way of addition, because objects are
arranged in sleeping way.
Everybody say “horizontal”

We more examples and another horizontal way of adding numbers.

The children count.


6 lollipops. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, plus 4 lollipops. 1, 2, 3, 4 lollipops.
How many lollipops are there? Let’s count them together.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. “10 lollipops teacher.”
So the answer is 10 lollipops.
How did we do it?
We counted all the objects together.

Another example.
The children will count.

There are 3 pencils + 5pencils equals?


What are we going to do?
Let us count them together.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8. Meaning, 3+5=8.
Very good.

The children will count.

There are 5 balls. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, plus 2 balls. 1, 2, balls.


How many balls are there together? Let’s count them together.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7.
So the answer is 7 balls.
How did we do it?
We counted all the objects together.

The children will count.

The children will count.

Lets count the strawberries. 1,2,3,4,5,and 6 plus(+) two strawberries.


1,2. Equals, how many strawberries are there together? So 6+2 =8.

This is what you call vertical way of addition, because the addition
numbers or objects are arranged in standing way.You call this
vertical.

Let’s count the pears. 1,2, and 3 plus(+) three pears. 1, 2, and 3.
Equals, how many pears are there together? So 3+3 =6.

Let’s count the apples. 1,2, plus(+) 2 apples. 1and 2. Equals, how
many apples are there together? So 2+2 =4.

These are tomatoes. Let’s count the tomatoes. 1, 2, and 3 plus(+) 1


tomato. Equals, how many tomatoes are there together? So 3+1 =4.
All these pictures are examples of addition using sets.

D. Generalization
When we put 2 sets of things or number together means,
addition.
“Yes teacher”
2 crayons plus 3 crayons?
How many crayons when we put it together? “4 crayons teacher.”
