Purpose:

Despite previous efforts to make maintenance personnel aware of correct oil quick
drain valve installations on the PA-28R-200, PA-28R-201, and the PA-28RT-201,
reports have still surfaced of incorrect oil quick drain valves being installed.
When this occurs, it is possible that during nose landing gear retraction the incorrect
'oil quick drain valve may come into contact with the nose landing gear drag link,
become actuated and allow the engine oil to be drained out in flig:l~, t:a~5ing totai
power loss and engine seizure.

This Service Release announces the availability of warning placards (that provide
precautionary information .on the installation of the correct oil quick drain valve).
The placards should be installed on each side of the engine mount in the area of the
oil quick drain valve.

Instructions:

1. Gain access to tile lower engine mount (beneath intake and exhaust tubes).
2. Install placard, Piper Part Number 87369-26V, two (2) places, per Sketch 1.
3. Determine if correct oil quick drain valve is installed, refer to Sketch 2.
If incorrect valve is installed, remove incorrect valve and install correct
valve, Piper Part Number 492 172V, and safety wire, using .032 safety v." ire .
4. Reo'install items removed in Instruction 1 and make appropriat~ log book entry
of compliance with this Service Release.
