INTRODUCTION
Floor Wax is a wax-based preparation used to finish and polish floors. It was
designed to increase the hardness and glossiness of flooring while also providing
resistance to slips and scuff marks. There were some important factors to consider for
any business owner considering how to coat and protect their floors, such as health
effects and durability. This type of wax was a solution that had been widely used for
centuries in floor care.
Floor waxing is essential to maintain the shiny gloss of wooden floors. There
are still people using floor wax, a question floated to the residents of Baguio City
ensuring that they belong to the household population of the city. The Preceding
question was asked from the respondents to determine if they are using floor wax. Out
of 400 respondents, 2016 or 54% are using floor wax. (Moachi Sianen, n.d) However,
suppose you find buying ready-made floor wax prohibitively expensive. In that case,
it's possible to mix raw wax crystals and kerosene with banana peels to create a
substance suitable for polishing your wooden floors. Banana peels slipperiness and
resulted that wood have low CoF which was twice as slippery as ice and five times
slipperier that wood. Combining both idea that banana peels contain potassium and
were slippery, it can be used as an alternative floor wax (Kiyoshi Mabutchi, 2016).
The banana (Musa paradisiaca), which was grown all over the world, was
eaten as ripe fruit or used in cooking. Peels were a byproduct and made up 18 to 33%
of the entire fruit. Most of the waste produced from banana consumption comes from
the peel, which makes up 30% to 40% of the weight, resulting in approximately 3.5
million tons of banana peel waste per year. ( Ewing-Chow, 2022) The fruit's peel
provided defense. The peels of bananas are just as nutritious as the fruit itself. The
nutrients calcium, manganese, sodium, and sulfur were required in smaller quantities,
whereas the nutrients nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium were required in the
largest levels. This homemade floor wax will give a comparable shine and
smoothness to that of commercial products, and the oil in the kerosene counteracts the
banana peel's stickiness to ensure the finished sheen isn't tacky.
Banana peeling floor wax is made of mostly recycled materials that can help
users and consumers save money. It is less harmful to the environment than
commercial floor wax, which has many chemicals that are harmful to the environment
and to the people using it. This study will find out how banana peeling can be an
alternative source for making floor wax; how safe banana peeling floor wax is for the
environment and its users, and how much more efficient banana peeling floor wax is
than standard synthetic floor wax.
This study aims to determine if banana wax can be used as an alternative floor
wax. More specifically, this seeks the answer to the following question:
1.1. Smoothness
1.2. Shine
1.3. Odor
2. How is the effect of commercial floor wax be described in terms of:
2.1. Smoothness
2.2. Shine
2.3. Odor
3. How do the performance of the floor wax be describe in different types of floor:
3.1. Wood
3.2. Cement
3.3. Ceramic Tiles
4. Is there any significant difference between commercial floor wax and alternative
floor wax?
Literature Review
of Banana peel. The set-up was composed of 50g of banana peels, 10g of the used
candle, 5mL of cooking oil and 10mL of calamansi extract. The product was put in
observation to see if it was able to clean and shine compared to commercialised wax.
At the end of the observation, the researchers found out that MUSASA was an
effective antibacterial multipurpose wax compared to the commercialised ones. Like a
common wax, it shone surfaces, but the only difference was that it could also clean
and remove bacteria. The product worked on wood, stainless steel, leather, and
cemented floors.
As stated by Renzlouise (2017) “Banana Peel as Floor wax” Banana or
banana peel to be more specific is high in potassium that is commonly used ingredient
in shoe polish and another, banana peel is known for its slippery effect that when both
idea is combined. This banana peel floor wax can used as an alternative floor wax
because it has a good quality in terms of smoothness, shine, and odor.
This kind of wax not only made the floor more slippery but also to have a
shiny, presentable that maintains the quality of the finish floor. It can also make the
floor smooth as it is applied and scrubbed does make the floor more clean and with a
nice fruity scent. The main purpose of conducting this investigatory project was to
make an alternative fruity and affordable floor polish to preserve the finish floor most
practically. It is necessary and convenient to apply this product to lessen the expenses
in school and household in terms of maintaining their floor shiny and clean. And also
to minimize environmental problems that we are experiencing nowadays due to
improper waste management. Based on the study conducted by Caisip et.al (2019), 11
out of 13 people agreed that "Fruity Mixed Flavoured Floor Wax" was more effective,
and 13 said it was more affordable and more eco-friendly than the other common
wax. As a result, we discovered that it also served as an insect repellent and the scent
of it was not too irritating to the users. Then buying an expensive floor wax is more
practical and convenient.
The paradigm shows the commercial floor wax as a controlled group and
banana peel, kerosene, and candles as alternative floor wax to clean the floor. It
determines the difference between a commercial floor wax and an alternative floor
wax in terms of slipperiness, shine, and odor and the implication of this study to the
people.
give the same quality that the commercial one could give and compare and test the
smoothness, odor, and shininess of the alternative floor wax from the commercial
floor wax. The purpose of this study is to innovate the reusable banana peels to lesson
the environmental waste.
Study Design
The research design that will use in this study is the Two-Group Design
because there are one experimental and one control groups. The experimental group is
composed of produced floor wax from banana peel created by the researchers.
Whereas, the control group is compose of the commercially available floor wax. The
experimental and control group will be exposed on the same different tests to
determine the effectiveness of the research product.
people who are near the house of the researchers will be the respondents of the
research.
The main materials of this study are banana peel, kerosene, and candle. An
amount of 1 kilogram (kg) banana peel will be collected by the researchers from
the leftovers of banana fruits. The kerosene with an amount of 0.5 liters (L) will
be purchased by the researchers in the Gasoline Station. Lastly, the candle with an
amount of 8 ounces (oz) will be collected by the researchers into their homes and
neighbours. The main ingredients will be stored in different containers to avoid
early unwanted mixture.
Weighing scale and rating scale are the tangible materials that will be used on
data gathering of this study. Weighing scale will be available at home and the
rating scale will be formulated by the researchers. The survey will be the research
instrument in this study to gather the data.
2. Cost Analysis
The table 1 shows the cost analysis of the ingredients in making floor wax.
The banana peel comes from the waste that the researchers collected, so is the candle.
The researchers will buy a 1 gallon of kerosene that cost P 84.00 and only use the
amount of 0.5 L. The combination of these ingredients will create approximately 4
containers of floor wax.
Procedure
1. Floor wax Making Process
In making an alternative floor wax, the researchers will prepare all ingredients
and materials that can use on making an alternative floor wax such as banana,
kerosene, and candle. Then, the researchers will peel the banana and slice the
candle into pieces. The researchers will put the sliced candle on the hot casserole
and wait until it melts then put the banana peel and the kerosene and wait for
fifteen(15) minutes. The researchers will chill it first by setting aside and will be
strained it with a clean cloth and transfer it to the clean container. It will need to
be strained to keep the floor wax run smoothly and to prevent foreign particles
from contaminating the floor wax.
2. Performance Assessment
The performance assessment of the floor wax will be test. The smoothness,
shine, and odor are included on this assessment. The Researchers used 3 different
types of flooring. The wood, cement, and ceramic tiles. The researchers apply the
banana peel floor wax and the brand X floor to the wood, cement, and ceramic tiles to
test the smoothness, shine, and odor of both floor wax.
The floor wax smoothness, shine, and odor will be assessed using the Table 3.

Summary of Findings
Banana peels can be recycled and used to lessen the waste in our environment.
There were many ways to lessen such waste to maintain cleanliness in our
surroundings and also to prevent harmful effects to humans dues to population. One
of the ways to lessen the waste in our surroundings was to recycle scraps came from
fruits, one of which was the banana peel. Banana peel can be used as an alternative
ingredient in making floor wax, using this kind of scrap can reduce the harmful
chemicals components found in the commercial floor wax. Banana peels can be easily
found around the trash bins, especially in side streets.
The main purpose of this study is to determine if the banana peel, kerosene
and candle is effective as an alternative floor wax. This study aimed to determine the
effectiveness of alternative floor wax compare to commercial floor wax in terms of
smoothness, shine, and odor when used in different types of floor. There are also
benefits of using banana peel, kerosene, and candle in making alternative floor wax.
In making alternative floor wax we are using kerosene, any kinds of banana peel and
candle can be used but “saba” kind of banana is used in this research. The review of
related literature and study focused on what are the used of banana peel, kerosene, and
candle, why are this ingredients can be an alternative floor wax if you mixed it. The
cost of the alternative floor wax was cheaper compared to the floor wax that was
commercially available. The quality of the banana peel with kerosene and candle floor
wax was just the same or greater than the commercially available floor wax. The
The results based on the data gathered and the analysis, the combine banana
peel, kerosene, and candle as a potential of being used as an alternative floor wax.
Based on the data gathered. Based on the rating about the smoothness, shine, and odor
of the floor wax, there is no significant difference between commercial floor wax and
alternative floor wax in terms of smoothness and shine and there’s a significant
difference between commercial and alternative floor wax in terms of odor.
