Cultural Diversity not only helps within a company but can also assist in doing external
business. “A company that actively encourages diversity in the workplace will see more
perspectives being discussed and more solutions being thought of than ever before.”
(The importance of cultural diversity in the Workplace, n.d., 2020). The diverse cultures
can assist with knowledge of the different demographics for marketing and sales. For
this reason, along with the HR department, Public Relations & Marketing, Technology,
Graphics, website design, and Sales, all have a responsibility as they will benefit from
being diverse.
While HR can take the lead on the workplace being culturally diverse by having their
recruiting, hiring and onboarding more varied, all departments are impacted by the
benefits and challenges and therefore should also strive to support HR. Policies and
procedures need to be written with input from all departments to engage employees
and have a strong supportive work environment.
I work for a very small charity in a community that while culturally diverse the numbers
are very low. It is very difficult to make certain our organization is diverse as we only
have three staff, so we try to do so with our board of directors. We are in the process of
working with other charities to be more inclusive and representative of our community
cultures.
